Description

G. E. HAFER-,
NOSE PROTECTOR.
APPLICATION FILED 00112.19.
Patented Nov. 21, 1922.,
Patented Nov. 21, 1922' D STATES PA @i NOSE IPROTEC'IOR.
Application filed October 12, 1921. Serial No. 507,283.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon E. Ham, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nose Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descri tion thereof.
y invention pertains to nose protectors adapted to protect the same against freezing during severe weather.
he primary object of the inventlon 1s to provide a coverin which is adaptable to various sizes and s apes of noses and which is provided with means for securing the same on the nose.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will be more apparent as the description proceeds my invention consists of what is herein shown and described and more particularly pointed out and defined by the appended claim.
While I have shown one embodiment of the present invention it will be appreciated that various changes in the shape and details of construction are contemplated as within the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 illustrates an elevational view of the invention.
Figure-2 shows the invention positioned on the nose, and
Figure 3 is afront view of the latter.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the numeral '1 designates a covering which is suitably shaped to conform to various shapes and sizes of nose and is preferably made of soft flexible fabric. While various structures may be employed I prefer to make the covering of an outer and inner layer 2 and 3 respectively, which are stitched together along their outer edges.
For the purpose of securing the covering on the nose I employ a resilient wire sprin 4 which is disposed between the outer and inner layers 2 and 3 and is held in position by suitable stitching 5. As indicated in Figure 3 when the device is positioned upon to the nose it is designed to come well up on the bridge of the nose and at the same time cover the extreme tip without covering the nostrils and interfering with free breathin In this position the resilient sprin 4 1s adapted to straddle and grip the carti age in the upper part of the nose.
Thus it will be seen that a sim lo and effective device has been constructe which will absolutely protect the nose against un- 0 conscious freezing in cases where the wearer is working out of doors during severe weather.
I claim:- An article of the character described comprising a covering adapted to conform to the shape of the nose and snugly engage the same, said covering consisting of two layersof pliable material stitched togethor along their outer edges, a U-shaped spring adapted to straddle and grip the sides of the nose, said spring being positioned between the layers of pliable material, and a row of stitching around the edge of said U- shaped spring to retainthe same in proper position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
