Description

A. H. VEERMAN NOSE DISGUISE Feb. 12, 1952 Filed April 16, 1949 INVENTOR.
Arthur H.Veermun Patented Feb. 12, 1952 NOSE DISGUISE Arthur H. Veerman, J oliet, Ill. Application April 16, 1949, Serial No. 88,025
3 Claims.
My invention relates to removably attachable nose disguise means.
A prime object of my invention is to provide a nose disguise that is removably attachable to a persons nose for use in connection with games such as penalty games, or fortheatrical use and the like.
A further important object of my invention is to provide a removably attachable nose disguise made of resilient material that is attachable to various sizes or shapes of noses of the human physiognomy.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a removably attachable nose disguise having suitable clamping means in connection therewith for attaching the nose disguise over the bridge of the wearers nose, to be frictionally held thereon.
A further object of my invention is to provide a removably attachable nose disguise that may be made in any size or shape from classic styles to grotesque and that is of such simple design as to lend itself to economical manufacture in quantities.
Other objects and advantages embraced in my invention will be disclosed in the following description and the accompanying illustrations, wherein like parts are designated by like numerals, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my invention shown being worn and with parts broken away to illustrate the clamping means in association therewith.
Fig. 3 is an end perspective view of m invention with parts broken away, showing the clamping means and showing, in dotted lines, the open and closed positions of the nostril portions thereof.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective detail of the clamping means used in connection with my invention.
Referring to the illustrations, my invention is generally designated 5, and consists of a nose disguise body 6 preferably formed of a resilient material such as soft rubber and having a nose fitting cavity 1 formed to the general shape of a persons nose. The said cavity is normally in a partially collapsed state to insure frictional engagement thereof with a wearers nose. It should be noted also that the nose disguise is open at its bottom so as to permit a wearers nostrils to remain exposed to facilitate breathing.
Clamp means 8 is imbedded within the body 6 at the upper or bridge portion thereof with clamping jaws l0 and H straddling the nostril portions l8 and with jaw manipulating portions l2 and I3 straddling the upper end of a cored portion 9 which runs the length of the bridge of nose body 6. The said clamping jaws l0 and II are hinged together at M so that by grasping the nose disguise 5 near the cored portion 9 by thumb and finger I? and exerting pressure upon the jaw manipulating portions l2 and I3 of clamp 8 the nostril portions I8 are caused to be extended or flared as shown in Fig. 3, permitting the removably attachable nose disguise 5 to be placed over a persons nose, designated [6, shown in Fig. 2. Releasing pressure upon jaw manipulating portions l2 and I3 will allow the clamping jaws Ill and I I, together with nostril portions Hi, to friotionally clamp against the bridge I 5 as well as the sides of the wearers nose l6, urged by the resiliency of cored portion 9, as shown in phantom and dotted lines in Fig. 3. The jaw manipulating portions l2 and I3 are positioned contiguously to the cored portion 9.
One of the principal uses of my invention would be in connection with penalty games such as "Old Maid, wherein the penalty would be to wear a false nose. With my removably attachable nose disguise, the same nose could be used by every member playing the game. Inasmuch as the nose disguise 5 is worn on the human nose it must necessarily be larger in size and hence abnormal in appearance.
Other uses and advantages of my removably attachable nose disguise might be in connection with theatrical costumes, wherein it is necessary to quickly attach or remove a nose disguise which may be of special design.
Although I have herein described rather succinctly the nature and use of my invention so that persons skilled in the art will have no difiiculty apprising themselves of the teachings thereof and, inasmuch as the disclosure is susceptible of various alterations, modifications, and improvements, I hereby reserve the right to all modifications, alterations, and improvements falling within the scope and spirit of my invention, as well as any modifications that are embraced suggestively in the accompanying drawings, and any that may come within the purview of the foregoing descriptions; my invention to be limited only by the appended claims.
Having thus disclosed and revealed my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is;
1. Removably attach-able nose disguise means, comprising artificial nose disguise body means of abnormal configuration made of resilient material having a bridge portion and provided with a nose fitting cavity terminating in a nostril portion and adapted to fit a persons nose exposing the nostrils thereof, and articulate clamp means embedded in the said body and straddling the bridge portion of the said nose fitting cavity near the upper portion thereof and said body means adapted to be secured to the bridge portion of the said persons nose.
2. Removably attachable nose disguise means, comprising artificial nose disguise body means of abnormal configuration made of resilient material having a bridge portion and provided with a nose fitting cavity terminating in a, nostril portion and adapted to fit a persons nose exposing the nostrils thereof, and articulate clamp means embedded in the said body and straddling the bridge portion of the said nose fitting cavity near the upper portion thereof and. said body means adapted to be secured. to the bridge portion of thesaidpersonsnose, the said artificial. nose disguise, body meansbeing further provided with. a cored portion running inla longitudinal direction substantiallyparallel to the said'nose cavity and extendingfrom the inner endalmost to the tip thereof to maintain thesaid clamp means normally inclosedposition.
3. Removably attachable nose disguise means,
comprising artificial nose disguise body means of abnormal configuration made of resilient material having a bridge portion and provided with a nose fitting cavity terminating in a, nostril portion adapted to fit a persons nose exposing the nostrils thereof, and articulate clamp means embedded in the body and straddling the said bridge portion of the said nose fitting cavity near the upper portion thereof and said body means adapted to be secured to the bridge portion of the said persons nose, the said artificial nose disguise body means being further provided with a cored portion running in a longitudinal direction substantially parallel to the said nose cavity and extending from the inner end almost to the tip thereof to maintain the said clamp means normally in closed position, the said clamp means including a pair of crossed members articulately secured intermediate their ends forming a pair of manipulating portions about the said cored portion and a pair of clamping portions within the said bridge portion.
