BUTTON ri-manner".
Application filed July 6, 1921.
To all whom z't may concern Be it known that l, Gnonon RTHUR hm'rson, a subject of the King" or Great Britain, and resident of the town of Renfrew, in the Province of Ontario, Dominion of A ada. have invented certain new and uselmprorements in Button 'lhreaders, oi ch the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in button threaders, and the objects of the in vention are to provide a device of this kind, that will materially assist in quickly and etfectively sewing on of buttons, by confining the threading or sewing to that portion of the material directly beneath the thread; apertures in the button, and the same time securely retaining the button in the required. position.
The invention consists essentially in the con (tion, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying specif cation and drawings.
n the drawings;
Jgure l is a perspective view of the button threader in open position to receive a button therein.
Figure 2 is a plan View oi the threader in open position.
Figure 3 is a similar view in closed posi- I i: is a view: oi the threader closed. areo is similar view in open position. ire 6 a perspective View of the butiQzitlt-l closed with the button in place underside of the sectional View through the several figures.
deferring); to the sjlrawings. A is the but- (on thi'cader Comprising the holder B and the closing and retaining member C made of anv suitable material and preferably as here shcwn "flexible metal. The holder B is formed v; .tn a hollow top 1. i2 2. suitable rim with fixed re aining; catch 3 and the aper- Serial 1%. 482,774.
The closing and retaining member C is formed with the semi-circular end portion 10 adapted to fit and travel partially around the slotted stem '2' in the flange 9 and extend ing upwardly at 11 to form the catch l2 adapted to travel on the rim 2 between the stops l3 and 14- on the top and bottom respectively of said rim.
From the foregoing the operation 01? my device will be apparent. The button is placed in the button threader when the latter is in the position as shown in Figure l with the closing and retaining member moved around to contact with the rim stop l8. The catch 12 is then drawn back around the rim 2 to the stop it thereby fastening or locking the button in position, and at the same time closing the slot 8 in the-stem 7, when the button threader is ready for the sewing; on et-the button to commence, the end of the stem 8 fitting tightly on the material and confining; the threading of the button to that portion 0?: it corresponding exactly to the thread apertures in the button.
its many changes could be made in the above construction. and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention. within the scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all mat-- ter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illusftz-rative not in limiting sense. lVhat I claim as my invention is:
1. A button threader comprising a button holoer formed with a hollow top side provided with rim catches or retainers an d hav ing a central aperture therein, extending outwardly to form a slotted rim, a convex bottom side formed with a hollow slotted stem, corresponding to said apertured centre and said slotted rim and. having an upiwtrdly bent end flange thereon. a closing and retaining: member formed with a. semicircular end to fit partially around said stem and to travel in the end flange thereon, the other end of said closing; membe extending to form a catch adapted to travel on said rim; top and bottom stops on said rim to l: Qt the travel of said closing and retaining member.
prising a button holder provided with rim retaining catches and, formed With a central aperture and a slotted rim, a slotted hollow stem extending downwardly from said apertured centre, an end flange on said stem, a closing and retaining member adapted to travel simultaneously on said stem and said rim, whereby the slot in said stem is closed or opened, and the button in said holder is locked or released.
3. In a device of the class described, the
coi'nbination With a suitably iormedholder portion having an apertured centre, a slotted rim and forlned with a hollow slotted stem, 15
of a closingand locking member adapted to travel on said stern and said rim to close or open the slotted stem and to lock or release abutton in position on the holder,- means on said rim to regulate the travel of said closing 20 GEORGE ARTHUR FRITSGH.
