Description

G. A. EFFORD.
CURTAIN HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 10, 1920.
Patented Nov. 7, 1922.
1 l l ll Grace, Al? ffOl d INVENTOR BY My ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 7, 1922.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GRACE A. EFFORD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CURTAIN HOLDER.
Application filed May 10,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRACE A. Erronn, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois ,have invented new and use supporting one half or section of a drapery or curtain, and each being pivoted to one side of the window casing whereby either or both of said members may be independently swung away from the casing so that free access may be obtained to the casing and sashes proclaiming the same.
. drapery supporting devices may be applied A further object is to provide swinging drapery supports, each comprising a longitudinally adjustable member, and each having means for sustaining both. members in confronting alignment as well as means for sustaining the same when swung away from each other to allow free access to the casing and sashes.
' A still further object of the invention is to produce a drapery support for window casings that shall be of a simple construction, cheap to manufacture, easily applied to the window casing, and one which will effectively support a drapery in align with the window casing to bring the drapery thereagainst, and in align with the said window casing to bring the drapery away from the casing and permit free access to the casing and sashes carried thereby.
The foregoing objects, and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts such as is disclosed by the drawings.
' In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of the improvement.
Figure 2 is a similar view of one of the parts constituting the improvement removed from the casing.
Fi re 3 is a detail sectional view approxlmately on the line 33 of Figure .2.
Figure 4 is a similar sectional view ap proximately on the line 44 of Figure 2.
It will be understood from the following description that two of my improved 1920. Serial No. 380,332.
1 to each side of the window casing, the same being so proportioned that one will be disposed outward of the other, whereby two draperies, such as a lace curtain, and an outer drapery may be attached to the same casing. However, in the drawings I have disclosed but one of my devices, applied to each side of the casing 1.
My improvement contemplates the employment of brackets 2, one as stated, to be attached to each side of the casing 1. Each of the brackets 2 includes a body plate 3 having upper and lower outstanding lugs 4 and 5 respectively. The plate 3, outward of the lugs has transverse openings therethrough for the reception of securing elements 6. Both of the lugs 4 and 5 have aligned openings and the said openings are round. The upper lug 4 is provided with a transverse concaved depression or channel 7 which intersets the referred to round opening. Preferably, but not necessarily, the outer wall of the channel 7 at the sides'of the lug 4 is'beveled as at 8.
The round openings in the lugs, indicated by the numerals 10 are designed to receive therethrough and provide guide bearings for the inner angle arms 12 of the rods 13. The rods are round in cross-section and are of a size to be snugly received in the channels 7 of the brackets. It will be apparent that when the rods 13 are swung over the face of the casing the said rods will be supported by the bearings afforded by the channels in align with the inner casing and with the sashes carried thereby. It .will be further apparent that the rods 13 are susceptible to the outward swinging and that when the same are brought into the opposite portion of the channel 7 than that occupied .when arranged against the inner casing the said rods will be supported in such position. The bevelled corners 8 permit of the outward movement of the rods, as will, that to be understood.
On the outer ends of the rods '13 are telescopic extensions 14. The members 14 are provided with notches that form inturned lugs 15 which are received in grooves 16 in the rods 13. The outer ends of the sec tions 14 are upturned or may be provided with notches as indicated by the numerals 17 and preferably said ends of the extensions have depending ornamented chain elements 18 secured thereto.
It is, of course to be understood that the drapery is arranged over the rods 13 and their extensions 14. Each of the rods having the telescopic extensions permits of the arrangement of my device upon window casings of varying widths. The chains 18 allow the operator to swing the rods on the brackets and. when the same are positioned in the channels 7 as heretofore mentioned, free access may be obtained to the casing and to the sashes carried thereby so that the casing and sashes may be cleaned.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is v A curtain holder comprising a bracket, an
angle rod rotatably supported by said-
