WAEIiE-AIE FURNACE.
A ncaudn filed May 2,
,an improved dome section provided with means for tumbling or QlQflGC'tlllg' V the incom- 1etelv burned volatilized n'oducts of coml a v bustion inwardly toward center of the dome section and for increasing the radiating surface over WillCll th a passes. @ther obyects he invention reside in the novel features of construction 1 is the fire pot of the furnace, and 2 the,
combustion chamber including the doine section 3 and the upper portion l of acasing 5 between which and the dome section n sses the air to be warmed.
The dome section 3 has tl'ieuppcr portion ('3 thereof ta 'iering from the bottom toward the top and provided with the outlet opening '7 at the top. The upper portion of the dome section is provided With the substantially horizontal rows of outwardly extending projections 8, which are hollow on their ii'iner sides to form the recesses 9. These recesses have the rounded substantially horizontal top Walls 10 and taper in with as Well as increase in depth from their bottoms toward their tops. 'lhe bottoms of the recesses are substantially flush with the inner surface of the upper portion of the dome section, the arrangement being such that unequal expansion of the Wall isavoided.
For the purpose of tumbling or deflecting inwardly all of the incompletely burned volatilized products of combustion which upon leaving the fire pot 1 pass upwardly along the upper portion of the dome section, the recesses of the difierent rows alternate vertically, so that any of the products of Serial No. 466,196.
combustion passing the recesses of the first row will enter the recesses of the next row. The products of combustion upon entering a recess converges as it moves upwardly and finally is tumbled or deflected laterally inward toward the center of thedome section, where they are commingled with the burning products of combustion and is burned, Since there are aplurality of rovs of recesses and since the dome section tapers from. the bot-- tom toward the top, it is seen that if some of the incompletely burned volatilized products of combustion pass beyond the recesses f the lower row and also pass the recesses of the second row, they will engage in the reof the next rovv and be commingled with the burning products of combustion.
Due to the fact that there are -a plurality I of rows of outwardl P extendin aro'ections 9 on the Wall 6 of the fire section, the heat 'adiating surface of the Wall is materially increased so that eddies are, produced in the air passing between the furnace casing and the'dome section, and this air is uniformly heated;
lVhat I claim as my invention is:
i. in a furnace, a dome section having, a u 'ty of staggered upwardly tapering re c med in its well, said recesses tapen in width and increasing in depth from i bottoms toward their tops, the bots of said recesses being substantially l with the inner surface of the dome 2. In a furnace, a dome section having a plurality of horizontal rows of spaced upwardly tapering recesses formed in its well, the spaced recesses of one lO'W alternating with the spaced recesses of the adjacent row.
3. in a furnace, a dome section having; a plurality of horizontal rows of spaced. staggeredly arranged taperin recesses formed therein, said recesses ter' dilating at one end in rounded substantially horizontal Walls.
l. In a furnace, a dome section having plurality of staggeredly arranged upwardly tapering recesses formed therein, said recesses terminating at one end. in rounded substantially horizontal Walls.
In testimony whereof I aflir; my signature.
