l SPORTING GUN.
Application ledfFebruary 20, 1922. Serial No. 538,062.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, BONIFACE PETRIK, a Citizen of France, and a residentof St.- Eh'enne, Loire, France, have invented cer- 9 tain new and useful Improvements in Sportng,Guns;-and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othhrs skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. reference hilg had to the Vaccompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specifica- ,5 yIn my application for U. S. patent' Serial Nm 581,015 a sporting gun is described in which a strap d pivots about two axes or tltmniohs integral with the barrel block and is fitted in grooves provided in the interior I0 of the cheeks of the breech piece g .(Figsflsiend7,).v
.As the applicant has roved, the manu of thetwo trunnions'or pivots e1 is a somewhat diilicult operation, since they are l with the barrel block endit is neces- ,In Jthat they should be accurately centered.
o remedy this drawback the applicant ha devised improvements which form the Su ject of the present invention, of which l0 lthe most important consists in making the pivots or trunnions integral rwith the strap and adapted to enter into holes provided in the cheeks of the vbreak parts of the breech, the sides of the strap engaging in two l5 grooves provided in the side faces ofthe barrel block. This method permits of the strap being very easily manufactured, since it can be made of two identically similarl 1000B. l0 The new arrangement practically inverts the position of the male and female organs forming the pivoting connection between the stra the barrel block and the breech piece.
T e accompanying drawings illustrate an l5 example of the improvements according to the invention:
Fig. vl is an elevation of the rear end of the barrel block of the gun.
Fi 2 is a vert-ical section on the line X- of Fig. 1.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are detail views showing the strap, respectively, in front elevation, in side elevation and in plan.
Fig. 6 shows in elevation, partly in section,
b5 the strap mounted on the break of the in dot and dash lines.
Fig. 6a is a plan of Fig. 6. p i i Fig. 7 isa section on the line Y-Y- of Fig. 6, the strap not being sectioned so as to show its mounting in the break of the breech piece. Fig. 8 is a section corresponding to Fig. 7 and showing the gun in the rclosed position. Figs 9 and 10 show, respectively, in side view and in plan the` cocking piece which is displaced by the strap when the breech piece is opened. l y
The pivoting connection between the barrel block C and the breakv g of thebreech piece is obtained by the strap d1 consisting of two absolutely similar pieces which are dis osed symmetrically y.as shownin Fig.` 3. ach piece or half strap'fcll carries lthe pivot or trunnion c1 which is integral-with it and which is very easily turned onth lathe. These trunnions or"pivots'srue1 are breech piece, the barrel block being shown adapted to engage; in holes provided iii the sides of the break g of the breech piece as shown in Fig., 7. f Also, the sides of the strap d1 are litted in 'grooves D cut on each of the lateral faces .of ,the barrel block as shown'in F igs. 1 and` 2. grooves or Hats are of suilicient size to allow thestrap d1 to engage while ltaking part in .the rotational movement of the barrel block, as shown by the dot and dash lines in'Fig. 6.
The displacement of ytheY strap'fi1 is utilized to cock the gun. For this purpose the piece E acting as a cooking piece which is shown in detail in Figs. 9 and 10 has a projection H which engages in an aperture I of the strap d1 (Figs. 5 and 6). In these conditions when the breech is opened, that is to say when the barrel block is pivoted as shown in the dot and dash lines of Fig. 6, the cooking piece E is displaced in the direction of the `arrow F (Fig. 6) by the strap d1 which determines the cooking.
As shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the strap consists of two similar parts which on the one hand facilitates its manufacture and the other hand allows the strap to be rapidly mounted in the break of the breech piece by the simple engagement of each pivot or trunnion e1 in the corresponding hole of the side g. l
What I claim is 1. A sporting gun comprising a barrel block, a break, side cheeks secured to the These break, a removable strap provided between the barrel block and the break, grooves provided in the lateral 'faces of the barrell lock, wherein the sides of the strap are engaged and means for permitting the pivoting o the whole device formed by the stra and the barrel lblock with reference to t Abreak. l
3.. sportl gun comprising a barre block, a brealllzg side cheeks secured to the break, a removable strapprovided between the barrel block and the break, grooves rovided in the lateral faces of the barrel b ock wherein the sides 'of the stra are engaged, lateral trunnions secured to t e sidesl of the strap, and holes provided in the internal facesof the cheeks of the break and having the saidftrunnions engaged therein.
4. A sporting "n comprising a barrel block, a break, s1 e cheeks secured to the block, a removable' strap formed in two etrical parts provided between the barrel block and the break, grooves vprovided in the lateral faces ofthe barrel block where` in the sides of thestral are e i d, lateral trunnions secured tot e sides o the strap, and holes provided in they internal faces of the cheeks of the break and having the said trunnions engaged therein.
5. A orting gun comprising a barrel block, a reak, side cheeks secured to the breaka Vremovable strapy rovided between the barrel block and the reak, means for securing the said strap to lthe, barrel block,
.the barrel block with reference to the for'cocking t e gun.
6. A s orting n comprising a barrel block, a freak, si e cheeks secured to the break, a removable strap provided between the barrel block and the break, means for securing the said strap to the barrel block, and means for permitting the pivoting ofv the whole device formed by the stra and reak, means for transmitting the displacement of the stra with reference to the break, a slot provides in the back part of the strap, and a projection engaged therein and secured to.
the cooking mechanism.
7. A' sporting gun comprising a barrel block, a' break, vside cheeks secured to the break, a, removable strap provided between' the barrel block and the break, grooves provided in the lateral faces 'of the barrel block wherein the sides of the stra are engaged, lateral trunnions secured to t e sides of the strap, and holes provided in the internal faces of the cheeks ofthe break and having the said trunnions engaged therein, a slot provided in the back part of the said strap, and ,a projection provided in the said slot and secured to the mechanism for cooking the guns.` f
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invent1on,'I have signed my name hereto.
