CARL ERIK J. NILSON, OF STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN.
TIME RECORDER WITH MOVABLE CARD HOLDER.
Application led December 1, 1921.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL ERIK JEAN NILsoN, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Stockholm, Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Time Recorders with Movable Card Holders, of which the following is a speci` .fication The present invention relates to Workmens time recorders and particularly to that type of such recorders, that is provided with a card-holder which automatically is shifted in front of a printing wheel, driven by a cloc and in which the workmen insert their cards, on which their times are to be recorded. In said recorders the card-holder, which is provided with a flared opening projecting outside the apparatus, is movable in a slit 1n the casing of the apparatus.
This invention comprises a device having for its purpose to prevent objects being iny troduced into or falling into the apparatus through said slit,.as such objects would be likely to damage the apparatus or throw it out of operation. The device in question is of such construction that it occupies a Very limited space, in consequence whereof the dimensions of an apparatus provided with this device need not be in any essential' degrec increased.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a bottom plan view.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on line 3 3 of F ig. l.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of a modification.
l designates the casing of the apparatus and 2 the slit in the same wherein the cardholder 3 is movable. According to the arrangement shown in Figureslto3grooves4 are provided in the sides of the casing underneath that portion of the same where the slit 2 is made and in these grooves is slidably mounted a plate 5 with an opening 6, having edges 7 and 8 that are parallel to each other and form an angle of suitable size with the slit 2. Through said opening 6 is projecting the upper part of the cardholder vith its ared out opening. The
' provided with guide Serial No. 519,251.
edges 7 and 8 are preferably provided with guide ribs 9 entering into notches l0 in the card-holder and having for purpose to more securely guide the plate when being dis-y placed.
When the card-holder is .moved along the slit, it is obvious that the plate will be displaced in the grooves 4 in a direction transverse to the slit 2 and. also that those parts of the apparatus below the slit 2, that are not occupled by the card-holder, always will be covered by the plate 5 owing to the ed es T and 8 always being close to the card-hol er.
Instead of a fiat displaceable plate may evidently be used a curved plate 14, Figure el. having the shape of a part of a circle and rotatable on pivots l5, placed in the centre of the circle. Also this plate is preferably ribs, which, like corresponding above described guide ribs, are in engagement with notches in the cardholder.
Having now described my invention what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In combination, a casing having a guide slit, a card holder extending through said slit anc arranged to travel along said slit, and a cover plate movable relatively to said card holder and to the slit for covering at all times the portion of the slit unoccupied by said card holder.
2. A combination as claimed in claim l in which the cover plate is provided with an opening having substantially parallel Side edges arranged at an angle to said card holder` and slit.
3. A combination as claimed in claim l in which the cover plate is provided with an opening having parallel side edges arranged at an angle to the card holder and slit, flanges arranged at said side edges, and notches provided in the card holder and engaging said anges.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
C. ERIK J. NILSON.
