SLIDE 'IBOX Application filed September 5, 1928; Serial No. 303,986.
This invention relates to file cases.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved file case for use in filing microscopic slides used in connection with blologlcal research and the like.
It is another object of the invention to provide in a device of the character set forth means readily receivable within the conventional file cabinet drawer, said means being adapted to prevent breakage of the slides, and to provide for vertical filing thereof 1n a readily visiblemanner. f a
The invention provides a partition container having a plurality of racks which are 1 adapted to receive vertically microscopic slides, the top portions of which are adapted to extend from the container, whereby upon opening of the file drawer they may be readily seen and the proper slide chosen. It may thus be seen that the invention provides for the use of the conventional file drawers, as, for instance, of the .3 x 5 size, which may be secured in groups in any desired number. The slide rack is adaptable for the reception of index cards or other information when not in use for retaining slides.
With these and other objects and features of the invention in View, reference may be had to the followlng specification taken in connection with the drawings, 1n WhlC-l1- Figure 1 is an assembly view of my inven-I tion positioned within a file drawer.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1 with the drawer closed;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a side elevation partly in section showing my invention including a modification thereof.

Figure 5 is a sectional view through Fig-1 of one part of the.
ATENT OFFICE box 14 provided' with three longitudinally extending partition members15 which are preferably adapted to be received within a cutout portion of the ends 16ofthe box 14. The partition members 15 and the side walls 17 of the box 14 are preferably provided with a plural ty of vertically extending rack forming members 18; thus, there are provided four longitudinally extending sections each provided with a plurality of grooves 19 which are adapted to vertically receive glass microscopic slides. Theside walls 17 and the partition'members '15 are adapted to extend but a portion of thevertical distance of the slides 20, thus permitting the upper ends of the slides to extend above the sides of the box.
Theupper ends may thus carry proper indicia by meansof which vertical visible filing of the slides 20 is provided for. The ends 16 of thecontainer14, are preferably provided with upwardly extending knobs or. handles 21 which are adapted tofacilitate removal and replacement of the container 14 within the file drawer 11. 'By referringto Figure 2 of the drawing, it will be noted that each groove19 is adapted to receive two of the slides 20; thus, the'slides may be filed back to back while their face surfaces are still moist. This structure thus provides for the filing of wet slides without damage or intermingling of the specimens on the. slides. Bv referring toFigure 2, it will be noted that theslides areadapte'd to be positioned of the drawer is prevented. By referring to Figures 4,. 5 and 6, additional means for g preventing damage of the slides isprovided in the form of a longitudinally extending protecting rib .24. The rib 24 is preferably formed with fiat metal, the opposite ends of which carry depending'pins 25 which are adapted to be received in apertures 26 of theends 16. o By referring to Figures 4 and 5, it w1ll be noted that this structure provides a longitudinally extending member which extends above thevtop of the slides member which is adapted to receive any contact which otherwise might be received by the slides 20 and thus cause their damage. It will be understood that the present invention is not confined to the modification as shown in the second sheet of the drawings. It is also understood that numerous structural modifications and changes may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a device of the character described, a receptacle, a plurality of longitudinally extending dividing members therefor, a plurality of receiving grooves therein adapted to receive vertically extending slides and a longitudinally extending bufiing member associated with said container.
2. In a. device of the character described, a receptacle, a. plurality of longitudinally extending dividing members therefor, a plurality of receiving grooves therein adapted to receive vertically extending slides and a longitudinally extending buffing member associated with said container, said member being carried by the opposite ends of said container.
3. In a device of the character described, a receptacle, a plurality of longitudinally extending dividing members therefor, a plurality of receiving grooves therein adapted to receive vertically extending slides and a longitudinally extending bufiing member associated with said container, said buffer being carried by vertically extending manipulating handles.
4. A buffer for slide drawers or the like, including a flat body adapted to extend longitudinally of the body and a pair of depending pins associated with the ends of the body and extending laterally therefrom, said pins being adapted to be received in the drawer structure to retain the butter in vertical longitudinally extending position over said drawer.
Signed at Montreal, P. -Q., Canada, this 30th day of August, A. D1928.
