BRUSH PAD.
Application led September 6, 1921.
T0 @ZZ w hom it may concern Be it known that I, JULIUS rfinimiriizus, a citizen of the United States, residing at Millbourne, in the county of' Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain nei* and useful improvements in Brush Pads, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel, inexpensive and eflicient brush pad for removing dust from phonograph records and other objects.
rllhe invention is characterized by the employment of a cupped body, a member for covering or closing the same, and suitable coverings for the body and its closing member, the whole being firmly held together' by interlocking, co-operating parts of the body and the closing member, as will be hereinafter described and particularly claimed.
ln the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention,
Figure l is a side view of a brush pad embodying my invention.
lFigure 2 is a bottom view thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged section through one side of the brush pad, on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, 2 designates the body member, 4 the cover member therefor, 5 the covering for the body member and 6 the' covering for the cover member.
The body member 2 is formed of sheet metal, cup shaped and provided with an annular edge flange 7 extending outwardly from the top thereof.
The cover member 4 is also formed of sheet metal and it extends over and closes the otherwise open top of the cupped body 2, and is provided with an annular edge flange 8 which is turned downwardly around the flange 7 of the body member 2, and inwardly beneath the same entirely around the device, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
The covering for the body member 2 may be of any suitable material, such as velvet, which will act as a brush for removing dust, and the covering 6 for the cover member a may be of any suitable material, such as cloth or sheet Celluloid, for an attractive and durable finish. The velvet cov ering 5 covers the entire exterior surface of Serial No. 498,721.
the cupped member 2, extending under the same, around its sides, between its flange 7 and the flange 8 of the cover member 4 and over the flange 7 to the interior of the member 2; and the covering 6 covers the entire exte 1ior surface of the cover member l, extending over the same around and under its flange 8 and up between the flange 8 and the flange 7 of' the body 2, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The coverings 5 and 6 are firmly clamped together by and between the flanges 7 and 8 in a manner to hold them in place and prevent displacement of them over the surfaces of the members which they cover.
lt will be observed that the edge of the cover member l and its covering 6 which embrace the flange 7 of the body member 2 forms an annular rib which projects outwardly from the top of the body member 2. By grasping this annular rib by hand, the entire device may be firmly and easily held by the user; and, while thus held, it may be passed over phonograph records or other objects with the velvet covering 5 in contact therewith for cleaning or dusting purposes.
The device, as hereinbefore described, may be formed, at a low manufacturing cost, by suitable dies, which bend or form the edge flange 8 of the cover member l and its covering 6 inwardly beneath the edge flange 7 of the body member 2 in a manner to effect the clamping of' the parts of the device as previously described; and, when thus formed, presents a strong, light and durable structure.
l claim as my invention In a brush pad, a cupped body member having an outwardly extending flange, a cover member closing the body member and extending over its flange and having its edge portion turned downwardly and around said flange and inwardly beneath the same, and a covering extending over the outer surface of' one of said members and between and held in place by said flange and said edge portion, said covering being provided with outwardly projecting brushing elements.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signature hereto. f
JULIUS ABRAHAMS.
