SURGICAL PAD: Y
Application filed December 31, 1924. Serial No. 759,197.
My invention relates to surgical pads.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a surgical pad of eiiicient operation and economical and sanitary construction.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description thereof.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective of a surgical pad constructed inV accordance vWith this invention.
Figure 2 is a cross-section on line 2-2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a bottom perspective of the interior of the pad.
Figure 4 is a perspective of the pad covering.
The numeral 1 indicates a rubber or other elastic casing, the upper side of which is corrugated or provided with an otherwise roughened surface 2. The casing l is provided Wit-h a bottom opening 3 and a top opening 4;
Adapted to fit into the casing l is a pad 5 constructed of any suitable' material, as for instance sponge, rubber or fleio, where it is desired that t-lie pad shall be resilient, or Wood or metal Where a hard pad is desired. The upper portion of the pad 5 is provided with a circular undercut groove- 6 forming a head 7 on the upper side of the pad.
either the opening 3 or 4 the head 7 protriides through the opening 4, the circular edge of the 'casing resting in the groove 6, as clearly shown in Figure 2 yof the drawings. Before the Vpad 5 is inserted in the casing, a suitable contacting cover 8 is placed over the head 7 of the pad. The cover 8 may be in the form showny in Figure 3 Where it is provided With a draw-string 9 adapted to tighten the under portion of the cover, or it may be merely a small piece of suitable material adapted to lit over the head and extend under vthe edges of the casing l, so as to be secured thereby. The cover 8 may be of any suitable material having in lview the conditions underk which the pad is to be used, and may to this end be of either a smooth and soft or relatively rough and hard texture.
the paid is inserted in the casing l through lsert the pad through said opening.
which, extending through the casing,'is so.
arranged as to bear in the designedinanner upon the area to be treated. l This bearing head is moreover covered With al suitable 1 contacting fabric or other inaterial'vvhich,
having in view proper sanitary conditions, may be frequentlychanged.` The cover 8 may furthermore be provided with a suitable medicament for the treatment of the y disorder for Which-the pad is designed. By the use of the undercut groove 6 yforming Y the head, it Will be observed that the correct degree of protrusion of the head may be f suitably accomplished, and Where desired thel bearing surface of the protruding head may be in alignment with the arc of the casing l. f Y
The pad is arranged to be secured to a truss-strap, not shown, by means of the usual plate 10, which' is secured tothe pad 5 in the usual manner. Y
From the foregoing description, the nature and value of this invention -ivill be ap parent to those skilled in the art to which the same appertains.
It Will be understood that certain modifications may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the kappended claims.y For instance, the casing l need be provided only With the opening 4, if desired, in which event, of course, it Will be necessary to in- Moditications in form, asabove indicated, are
casing'vbeing provided With an opening, a. pad adapted to fit inside Vsaid casing, said' pad'being provided with a head formed by' an undercut v groove linto which the edge of` the casingV around said opening is adapted to tit, and a removableV cover for the head of said pad. y Y
