This invention relates to a sanitary pneumatic bedpan pad.

An object of the invention is the construction of a simple and efficient -pad' or protecting device which will protect a patient while using a square bedpan.

Another object of the invention is the construction of a pad which will efliciently receive a portion of the bedpan and will also protect the patient from injury while using the pan.

A still further object of the invention is the construction of a pad or protecting device which comprises a body provided with a bedpan receiving pocket, and said body being also provided with an air-receiving compartment above and to one side of said pocket.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, I designates a bedpan of any ordinary type.

The pad or device comprises a body 2 which is formed by sewing or vulcanizing together a top piece 3, a flat bottom piece 4, an intermediate piece 5, an inner strip 6, and a surrounding strip 1. The top piece 3 and the surrounding piece 'l are brought together at 8, Fig. 3, and permanently secured. The intermediate piece 5 is permanently secured at 9 to the vertical inner strip 6, and said inner strip B is permanently secured at I0 to the edges of the at bottom piece 4 and the lower edges lof the surrounding piece 9 (Fig. 3).

A suitable Valve device II is provided on the device or body 2 for inflation and deation purposes.

A pocket I2 is produced in body 2 by assembling the parts described, and on the inside of the front portion or edge of the bottom piece 4 is a transversely extending reinforcing strip I3 (Fig. 2). This strip I3 strengthens the device just at the point where considerable wear is likely to take place, by inserting and withdrawing the bedpan I from the pocket I2.

It is to be noted that pocket I2 is provided by the peculiar formation and positioning of inner strip 6, intermediate piece 5 and bottom piece 4. This construction produces the air-receiving compartment I4 that is continued at its outer end downwardly at I4a, so that the patient is protected from coming in contact with the bedpan both at one end and a portion of the top thereof; per Fig. l, the compartment I4 eX- tends down on two sides of the pocket I2 as well as at the rear of said.- pocket.

The device is preferably made of thin strips or sheets of rubber material. When the device is inilated, there will be produced a non-wrinkled sanitary bedpan pad. The valve device II, by reason of its position at one side of the device is out of the way.

When the device is not in use, it is deiiated and stored in a comparatively small space. When it is desired to use the device, the inflation of compartment I4 is .easily accomplished through the medium of valve device II, and then the placing of one end of the bedpan in the vpocket I2 is a comparatively simple matter.
