To all whom it may concern Be it knovvnthat I, ALFRED A. Phonon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Memphis, in the county of Shelby and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved comb tor use by hairdressers.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts.

The comb has a back 8 somewhat curved from front to rear along it upper line and having its corners rounded off as seen in Figure 2. The back of the comb is thus rendered smooth and has no sharp corners or edges to break the hair.

Hairdressers combs of this type are intended to be used in straightening hair which is curly or kinky, by heating the comb and drawing it through the hair. By repeated combing it Will become straightened and will remain so for some time. The nature of the hair operated on, and the fact that such hair is often matted and dirty renders it necessary to use every precaution to n'iinimize breaking tearing and upr'ooting of the hair. The even spac ing of the teeth, the curving of the back, from one end to the other, the rounding of the corners of the back to a point where the angles practically disappear, the smooth curve of the rear or left side of the comb as seen in Figure 2, and the obtuse angle tormedbetiveen the cut away portion 6 of the back and the portions 7 between the bases of the teeth all play part to make the action of the comb smooth and easy, and prevent deleterious effects on the hair.

Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: i

ii comb or tool for use in straightening curly or kinky hair comprising a body pi'ire brass, and a handle of heat insulating material, said body portion being formed curved along the upper line of its back and rounded at its corners, said comb being also curved in a direction crosswise thereof, the front of the comb being concaved on a greater curvature than the convex curvature of the back and the corn vex curvature oi? the front extending througl'iout the length of the teeth and a portion. of the back behind the base oi? the teeth, whereby a tool of the character de scribed is provided. adapted to readily slide through the hair and also one adapted to maintain the temperature desired, all as sub stantially set forth.
