My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a hair waving device and has for its object the provision in a hair waving device of a curling prong so arranged and constructed that when the coil of hair is wound thereon a waving of the hair may be effected in such a manner that when the hair is released from the waving device the wave will lie fiat on the head and a permanent 1o wave will be provided which, under normal conditions, will be unaffected for a consid-- erable period of time by combing, wetting or heating.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a curling and hair waving prong so constructed and arranged that the likelihood of damaging by breaking or cutting the hair wound thereon will be reduced to a minimum.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a hair waving and curling prong having a portion thereof adapted for the reception of a portion of the coil of hair for imparting a wave thereto, and a portion for curling the remainder of the coil.

It is another object of the invention to provide in a device of this class a heating unit and a curling and waving prong so arranged and constructed that the hair may be waved to lie flat on the head and the prong securely engaged in the heating element.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The prong comprises an elongated body having a flat faced end 7 provided at its end with the notch 8. in which may be engaged a string or other securing member for securing the coil or plait of hair 9 thereto. Projecting outwardly from one side of themain body of the prong are lateral plates 10 having the inclined end edges 11 and 12. Similar plates 10 project outwardly from the opposite side of the main body of the prong so as to overlap at its end edges l2and 11, which are also inclined, the plates at the opposite side of the main body. By having these plates provided with the inclined end edges and by having the oppositely positioned plates overwe ing of the plait or coil ofhair 9- in the manner indicated in Fig. 1 may be accomplished without any danger of breaking or cutting or otherwise injuring the hair, the inclined edges permitting the proper accumulation ofthe wound hair at that part where the hair is brought around 'the plates. It will also be noted that these plates are-0f greater thick} ness at their center than at their outer edges, thus being, as shown in Fig. 4, wedge shaped in cross section. This is done that a more easy settling of the accumulated portions of the plait of hair' about the curling plates may take place. I
