Toallwftont t may concern.'4 y y l j lie it known that lf, Joniv *15. Fnnrsinenn,
` a citizen of .the United `States,and a resi dent oit' Stamford, in tliecountyoit flilairlield 4and, State ol Connecticut, have invented certainnew and uselul `improvements in Pin- Tumbler Locks; and `l do hereby declare p tbe rollowing` to be a` itull, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such will enable others skilled in the art towvhicli it` appertains tonialte and use tliesaine.
y My invention relates to an improvement i i in pin tumbler locks, and itconsists broadly `in a cylinder and tumbler housing; made up oit a series of transverse sections secured tof getlier and to a face plate. ,l v
lt further consists in certain details `oit construction as` will be more tully explained and pointedout in the claims.
ln the`accompanying` drawings; Figure j is a vieivV in elevation of myimprovement;

Figure 5 is a vievv in section on the line 5-5 oit F igure 3; Figureis a vievv `in ele vation of one intermediate section ofthe lock; Figure is a similar view" showing);

Figure 12 is asimilar view on theline 12-12 "oi Figure 10,`and Figures 13 and jlftare views of the opposite faces oi: oneinterme-` diate section shown in Figuret).
In the construction shown in Figures 1 to 7 inclusive the cylinder 15 and tumbler housings 16 are made upoi Ia series of transverse sections each of Which comprises an integral cylindrical portion 17 and an upward extension 18, the lormer` of Which is adapted to receive the key plus; of a pin `tuinblerlock and the latter adapted to re ceive the tumblers or drivers for the latter,
tlieextensions or housings 18 in the present instance being; angular or square in cross section and adapted to receive and house similarly shaped or round tumblers or drivers not shown. i
A cylinder and its tumbler housings is `hollow and are of lsssthiclnessthan held in `made up oliva series of sectionsas shown in Figures 1, 2, L1- and 5, the extension `15 ofthe end `section being solid, While the extension oit the intermediate sections are cylindrical members `to,` receive the division plates lt). fliliese (flivision plates 19, asclearly v shown in liigure 2, entend from thecylin- `di'ical member upto the underside oi the topooll the extension thus V:torininn' series of pockets to receive and house thepiii tumblers or the` `drivijrs for the latter, 'the con-- struction being suoli that when the sections i are asseinl'iled with the division plates be tween them, they forni a continuous cylin-v der andliousinn` for the tuinblers or drivers and tuinblers` i y Anynuinber of sections maybe used, and" las the intermediate sections are alike and :interchangeable andoi the saine sizeand shape, will be `seentliat the lock` can be constructed-to receive one or. many tum# bleichambers as may be desired. y
rFlic inner faces of the extensionsgr'ytho end sections, and both faces of' the extensions of the intermediate sectionsare cut .away one haltthe thickness of the division plates 19, so that When the parts are assembled the division plates ivillbe securely place between tvvo extension mem` bers 16. y y c kThe end sections 15 are enlarged as at 2()` forthe passage otthe rivets 21 Which secure the sections and also the face plate 22 together, the intermediate plates, as shown in Figures G and 7 beine; heldin place by rictional contact, or if preferred, all of the sections may be provided with en largements 2Ol for the passage ci? therivets ior positively uniting,v all the members to`- gether in a unitary structure and against the possibility of displacement.
In tbeconstruction shown in F igures 8 to 14; inclusive, the `division plates are 1 dis` pensed with and the extension 18 of each section is provided with. a semi-circular recessed iace 18h so that when assembled, as shown in Figure 9 the tivo recessed faces of tivo adjacent sections Yform the recess or housingtor the tumbler orvdriver. In lother 105 respects the constructions are substantially the same as that shown in Figures 1 and 2.
ln'all, the sections may be `struck up or stamped from sheet metal thus dispeiisinp,7
with the necessityoi boring oi drilling the 11u z the 60` cylinder and tumbler housings and materially decreasing the cost of manufacture without sacrificing strength or durability in the i'inished lock.
lt is evident that many slight changes might be resorted to in the relative arrangement of parts shownand described Without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention hence I would have it understood that l do not Wish to confine myself to the exact construction and arrangement of parts shown and described but,
Having fully described my invention what l vclaim as new and desire to secure by LettersfPatent, is
l. A pin tumbler lock cylinder and tum lbler housing composed of end sections, in-
termediate sections, and division plates between the tumbler housings of the intermediate sections.
5. A pin tumbler lock cylinder and tumbler housing composed ot sections each olf which comprises a cylindrical member and an extension, the extensions being hollow and forming housings for the tumbler, :1nd means securing the sections together.
6. A pin tumbler lock cylinder and tumbler housing composed of a series oi transverse sections each oi? which comprises a cylindrical member and an extension, the extensions being hollow, division plates between the extension and dividing the latter into a series of pockets -for the tumblers and means for securing the sections together.
i'. A pin tumbler lock cylinder auf! tumbler housing composed el'v a, series o'l traus- .-'3
verse sections each oIV which comprises :i cylindrical member and an extension, division plates between the extensions, :i linee plate, and means connecting; the 'face :lud rear plate 'for locking` the sections in assembled position.
S. A pin. tumbler lock cylinder and tumbler housing composed ot a series ol independent transverse sections. ach swiou comprising a cylindrical portion und au integral housing' member.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence olI two subscribing witnesses.
