unirse erstes STEAMBOILER STRUCTURE.
Application filed May 9, 1919. Serial No. 295,890.
To f/,ZZ 'wiwi/2, t may concern kBe it known that I, EnNEs'r G. Orniin'r, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Nyack-on-the-Hudsoin in the county of Rockland and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Boiler Structures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention7 such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in steam boiler structures and more particularly to separators withinthe central drum portions of water tube boilersone object of the invention being to so construct a separator and locate the same within the central drum of a water tube boiler that priming will be eifectually prevented.
A further object is to so construct and mount a separator within the drum of a boiler that the same shall be efficient in preventing` the water from lifting and mixing with the steam.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain .novel features of construct-ion and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying` drawing is a sectional view of a portion of a water-tube steam boiler and showing an embodiment of my invention.
The water-tube boiler shown in the drawing is of that type employing an annular or circular' series of vertically disposed waterA tube coils l surrounding a central vertical drum 2. The lower ends of the coils l communicate with the lower portion of the drum 2 by means of nipples 3 and the upper ends of said tubes communicate with the upper portion of the drum adjacent'to the steam space 4l. through the medium of nip ples or connections 5, which latter extend through the wall of the drum and projectl short distances into the latter. A cap 6 may be screwed to the upper end of the drum and the whole may be supported in proper vertical position by suitable framework, a fragmentary part of which is indicated at 7. The cap is made with a steam outlet opening 8 and the drum is provided with suitably located openings 9 for the connections of boiler attachments, not shown,
Located within the drum below the steam space 4, is a separator ll having an open upper end l2 and a perforated bottom 13. This device is preferably made of non-oXi dizable metal and is in the form of a cylinder having a diameter appreciably less than the internal diameter of the drum. An annular iange 14 projects outwardly from the upper edge of the cylindrical body of the separator and is adapted to rest upon the inwardly projecting ends of the water tube nipples or connections 5 and thus support the device within the drum. It will be apparent that the body of the device is suf- [iciently spaced from the wall of the boiler drum to permit the water from the coils or tubes to fall to the water line of the boiler. The perforated bottom of the separator will operate to prevent the water from lifting in a body and reaching the steam outlet at the top of the drum.
Slight changes might be made in the details of construction of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof or limiting its scope and hence I do not wish to restrict myself to the precise details herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a steam boiler structure, the combina tion of a drum having a steam outlet at its upper end7 nipples secured in the side walls of the drum adjacent the upper and lower ends thereof, the upper nipples projecting into the interior of the drum, water tubes disposed around the drum and having their ends secured in the respective nipples, and a vertically disposed cylindrical separator disposed in the upper portion of the drum7 said separator having a foraininous bottoni and an open upper end and provided at its upper end with an external annular flange resting on the inner ends of the upper nipr ples whereby the separator is removably sup ported in the drum in concentric spaced relation thereto.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribv ing Witnesses.
ERNEST G. OFELD'I.
