IMPROVEMENT IN WALKING-CANES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143,248, dated September 30, 1873; application filed August 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CHARLES K. PEVEY, of the city and county of Worcester, of the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Walking-Canes; and do hereby declare the saine to be fully described in the-following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of Which- Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 a vertical land transverse section, of a cane provided with my invention.
In this cane, Whose staff is shown at F, ferrule at E, the handle D is formed as an open frame to receive an eyeglass or lens, C; and, furthermore, it is constructed wma-'projection, A, and a bow or bend, B,`all being as and arranged as shown, Fig. 1 of the drawing representing the handle in the form of the head and part of the body of a serpent.
In using the cane the third nger, or that next to the indeX-nger, of the right hand of aperson enters the bow or bend, and goes under and rests against the projection A, which supports the cane on the hand, the bow or bend being essential to such.
With the bow and the projection the cane, 0n being swung by a person While he may be Walking With it, Will retain its place, or hang on the linger and balance to advantage.
The eyeglass combined with the cane enables the person to readily use the cane as an aid to his vision as Well as a support for his body.
I claim- The cane, or handle part thereof', provided with the eyeglass C, the projection A, and the bend or bow B, all constructed and arranged as specified.
