I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
WILLIAM W. MARTIN, OF SALEM, OREGON.
WATCH-OILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,182, dated June 6, 1882.
Application filed January 25, 1882. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM -W. MARTIN,
of Salem, in the county of Marion and State of Oregon, have invented anew and useful Watch- Oiler, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a device by means of which the bearings and wearing surfaces of watch movements and similar delicate mechanisms may be easily supplied with small and suitable quantities of oil; and to this end my invention consists of a fountain or reservoir for holding the oil, provided with an attached hollow needle-point or hair-tube for depositing the oil.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is' a longitudinal sectional elevation of my new and improved watch-oiler; and Fig. 2 is a front elevation, showing a modification thereof.
A represents the fountain or reservoir, and B represents the hair tube or point. The reservoir may be made of glass or any other suitable material, and is closed at the upper end or top by the metal cap 11, which fits over the cork and over the end of the reservoir, as shown in Fig. 1. The hair-tube B may be made of gold, silver, or any other suitable material. If made of metal, the upper end of it is inserted in the lower end of the reservoir and secured there, as shown in Fig. 1, and the lower end of the reservoir is provided with the conical cap or socket dfor strengthening and giving a finish to the joint or connection of the reservoir and tube.
To put the oiler in order for use the cap bis to be removed and the fountain or reservoir filled with oil. The cap is then to be replaced. To see that the tube is clear and that the oil 'flows, it is to be tested by touching the point of the hair-tube upon the finger-nail. As soon as the oil starts from the tube the oiler will always be ready for use while the supply in the fountain lasts, and by simply touching the point of the tube to the hearing or surface to as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A watch-oiler formed of the fountain A and hair-tube B, substantially as shown and described.
