JACGB SPETZEl-t, 05E OAK PARK, ILLINOIS.
BLOOIiIERS.
Application filed flay 1, 1922. Serial No. 557,698.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that Jason Srirznn. Cltl: zen of the United States, residing at Oak Park, in the county of Cook an State of Illinois, have invented. a certain new and useful Improvement in Bloomers, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to garments and more particularly to bloomers.
lit is a purpose of the inventlon to provide a pair" of bloomers with openmgs 1n the sides thereof, to provide a drop seat portion, said openings dividing said bloomers into a front portion and a rear portion, said front portion being permanently at tached to a belt, and the rear portion belng supported by said belt by being detachably secured to said front portion. Preferably the upper edge of said rear portion 1S provided with elastic to contract the same, and. if desired the belt may be boned to form a girdle.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the description of the accompanying drawings proceec However, I desire to have it d1st1nctly under: stood that I do not intend to limit myself to the exact details shown or described, but that I intend to include as part of my invention all such obvious changes and modifications of parts as would occur to a person skilled in this art, and as would fall within the scope of the claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my 1mproved garment;
Fig. 2 is a view of the garment looklng down at the same from the upper edge portion thereof;
Fig. 3 is section thereof taken on the line 8-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 41 is a section taken on the line 5-4. of Fig. 1; and
F 5 is a fragmentary side view of portion of a modified. form of belt.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the improved bloomers comprise a body portion 10 which is provided with the leg portions 11 and which has openings or slits therein at 12 extending from the upper edge thereof down the sides of the garment over the hips so as to provide a front section 13 and a back section 1 1. Secured to the upper edge portion 15 of the front section 13 is a belt 16, said belt being secured thereto in any suitable manner as by means of stitches as shown at 17. The rear section 14 is free of the belt 16, and said belt 16 is provided with hooks 18-and eyes 19 to secure the free end portion thereof together, said belt being made of such size as to properly lit the body of the wearer.
The rear section 14 is rovided with a strip of elastic 20 arranged in a pocket 21 extending around the upper edge of said rear portion 1 1. Said elastic is made of such length asto tend to draw the rear section together to a smaller size than the belt, thus placing the elastic under tension when the socket members 22 on the rear portion will engage with the stub members 23 on the front portion so as to close the garment on the sides, said members 22 and 23 being of any suitable type of separable fastener.
It will be evident that due to the provision of the fasteners, the rear portion of the garment, when the fasteners 22 and 23 are interengaged, will be supported by the belt 16 through the section 13 and that said belt will at all times that the hooks 18 and eyes 19 are engaged, support the forward portion 13, thus providing a drop seat garment. If desired, the belt instead of be ing made of ordinary non-elastic material may be made as shown in Fig. 5, in which the belt 16 is shown as being provided with a plurality of stays 24: which are located in the pockets 25 extending up and down in said belt 16, the belt in this form being more in the nature of a girdle.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by U. S. Letters Patent is:
1. A garment of the character described comprising leg portions, a body portion having openings at the sides thereof dividing said body portion into a front portion and 100 a back portion, a boned non-elastic belt substantially fitting the waist of the wearer secured to said front portion and means for securing said back portion to said front portion at said openings, said back portion be- 105 ing provided with elastic in the top thereof.
2. A garment of the character described, comprising leg portions, a body portion having openings at the sides thereof dividing said body portion into a front portion and 110 a rear portion, a non-elastic body encirclin member secured along the top edge of sair front portion and extending from one free edge to the other free edge thereof for supporting said garment from the hips of the wearer, and means for securing said rear portion to said front portion.
3. A garment of the character described, comprising a non-elastic body encircling member for closely engaging the body of the wearer, a body portion supported by said member, said body portion having leg p01- tions and having openings at the sides 1,&32,091
thereof to divide said body portion into a front portion and a drop seat portion, said drop seat portion being free of said member betWeen the free edges thereof, and an elastic member engaging the top edge of said drop seat portion.
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 28th day of April, A. D. 1922.
