Be it known that I, ERNEST Il. nari-run, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pembroke, in the county of Giles and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bags, oi which. the

`following is a speciiication, reierence being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to improvements in bags, and more particularly to a new and novel ring construction for closing and operating the mouth or" the bag.

I have found that with bags now in use for carrying automobile tire chains, it usually takes one person to hold the mouth ot the bag open while the other person puts the chains into the bag. To overcome the necessity of the help of a second person in storing automobile chains in a chain bag, I have designed my improved bag. Although I have designed my bag primarily tor the use of carrying automobile tire chains, it will be readily understood that my bag can bealso successfully used by plumbers, electricians, or persons of like trade, as a tool or kit bag, and when my bag is put to such use, I provide a handle or bail for the bag, such as shown in the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings I have shown the bag as being made of cloth, but if it is desired, it can be made of fabric, rubberized material or the like.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a bag having a stiffened open mouth.

A further object of my invention is to provide a bag having a stii'ened open mouth and so constructed that the mouth is quickly and easily closed.

A still Yfurther object o1c my invention is to provide an open mouth bag which is quickly and easily closed by the mouth closing upon itself.

Further and other objects and improved results of my bag will appear in the following description and accompanying drawings.

Referring now to the drawings which show a preferred embodiment oi my invention, like parts are designated throughout the description by similar reference numerals.

In the construction of my invention, I provide a bag l, orp any suitable or desired matebag is provided at its top open end witha ring 2, which is clamped over as In the drawings, I have shown the ring 2 as made of metal, but it will be readily understood that this ring could be constructed of liber or like material and the clamping oi the bag could be effected by an additional ring on the inner or outer side of the bag in place of the crimped edge 3 of the outer ring, if it is so desired.

Positioned around the bag at a point below the open mouth of the bag and the ring 2, is a ring or collar band 4, which is held in position by the inner collar ring 4a. The bag l passes between rings 4 and 4 and is clamped thereby. Although I have shown in the drawings the bag made in one piece from its closed bottom to the top edge atv the mouth ring 2, the bag can be constructed, il. desired, of two pieces. If a two piece construction oi? the bag were used, one piece would extend from the closed bottom to the collar ring 4, and the other piece would extend from the collar ring 4 to the mouth ring 2.

The mouth ring 2 is made of a diameter slightly greater than the diameter of the collar ring 4, so that the mouth ring will tit over and around the collar ring in a snug Vfashion, as shown in llig. l et the drawings.

To adapt the bag t'or uses other than the storage oi' automobile tire chains, I have provided the collar ring 4 with a handle or bail 5, the ends of which are bent as at 6, and extend through suitable openings in the ring.

To eect the closing of the bag, which in Fig. 3 is shown in open position, the mouth ring 2 is turned to either the right or left, as shown in Fig. 2, as it is lowered upon and over the collar ring 4. rfhis turning of the mouth ring twists the bag l as at 7, and when the mouth ring 2 is completely down upon the collar ring 4, as shown in Fig. l, the twist 7 in the bag has completely closed the mouth thereof, as clearly appears in Fig. 1.

To insure the retention of the mouth ring 2 upon the Collar ring 4, I have provided a spring tension clamp 8, which is riveted or otherwise suitably fastened to the collar ring, as at 9. The mouth ring 2 when in its lowered position upon the collar ring, rests between the collar ring and the spring ten sion clamp 8, the spring tension of which Vwill assure the retention of the mouth ring on the collar ring.

In the drawings I have shown the collar ring 4: provided with an inner ring ta, but it will be readily understood. that l do not limit my construction to the additional inner ring, as' the collar ringcould be, in some other manner, suitably attached to the bag'.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A bag having' an open mouth, a ring Carried by the bag mouth, a collar ring earried stationarily by the bag at a point below the bag' mouth, and the open mouth of the bag being closed by twisting it upon itself between the mouth ring and the collar ring.

2. A bag` having an open mout-h, a ring surrounding the mouth portion, a collar ring surrounding the bag below the mouth portion, the collar ring stationarily fastened to the bag, and the mouth portion of the bag closed by rotating the mouth ring and lowering the same upon the collar ring.

3. A bag having an open mouth, a. ring' surrounding the mouth portion, a collar ring surrounding the bag below the mouth portion, and the mouth portion of the bag closed by rotating the mouth ring and lowering` the same upony and over the collar ring.

4. A bag, having an open mouth, a ring surrounding the open mouth of the bag, inner and outer collar rings clamped upon the bag below the open mouth thereof, and the open mouth oit' the bag closed by rotating the mouth ring and lowering it upon the outer collar ring.

. 5. A baghaving an open mouth, a ring surrounding the open mouth of the bag, a collar ring surrounding' the bag below the open mouth thereof, a clamp carried by the Collar ring, and the mouth ring adapted to be twisted and lowered upon the collar ring and held by the clamp, tor the purpose described.

6. A bag having` an open mouth, a ring surrounding the open mouth of the bag, a collar ring surrounding` the bag below the open mouth thereof, a handle carried by the collar ring, and the mouth ring adapted to be rotated and lowered upon the collar ring, for the purpose described. 1
