IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHING KNOBS TO LATCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 143, 17.4, dated September 23, 1873; application tiled January 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS MIeHAELs, of Covington, county of Kenton, State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knob Attachments, and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXaet description thereof', such as will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is designed for use, generally, in locks wherein the spindle extends through the lock and door, and slides loosely into the shanks of the knobs at either end.
In thedrawings is presented a view of my improvement, which is, of course, independent of any particular bolt mechanism.
A is a knob, the interior of whose shank is provided with a female screw to receive the projecting screw-cut portion b ot the hub B, which hub may have a bearing in either one or both of the lock-plates C C. Upon the outside ot the door is the knob E, with its shank G so reduced at its inner end that a shoulder, g, is left, which rests upon a corresponding shoulder in the interior of the deeply-recessed rose H, the shank G finally terminating as a screw, upon which is run'the nut I to hold the knob firmly against the rose H. The knob A, when in its proper place, is secured firmly to the hub B, so that the latter will turn with it.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim. as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The hub B, extending through the plate C, and provided with a screw upon its extended part b, in combination With the knob A, with female screw to lit upon the said extended part, substantially as set forth.
