LUGGAGE cannraa Ann 'ra-nan.
p appiieaaonrid sptehter sa, 1921. serian no. 502,459,
Be it known that l, Ewrlnif) T. limon, a
citizen of the United States,4 residing ,at
Vmeans of a bolt 21 and wing-nut 22.
3079 Ellridge Avenue,` Chicago, in the fc-ounty of Cook and Stateot Illinois, have `invented a new and useful Improvement in Luggage Carriers and Tables, of which 'the following is a specification. l
This invention relates to a combined luggage carrier and tableV and is fully dedescribed in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 yis a front elevation of the device when used `as a carrier;
and
Fig. 3 is a partial end elevation showing the device used as a table.
\ This device consists of two spaced brackets each having a C-cla'mp 10 and a threaded locking screw 11 by means of which it is secured to the running board 12 of an automobile. A hollow tube 13 is secured to each clamp, the upper end of the tube being connected to the clamp by means of a brace 14:.
A horizontal arm 15 is secured to a pin 1G which is hingedly mounted inthe tube 13, the outer end of the arm 15 being supported by means of a brace 17 which is hingedly mounted uponV the pipe 13.
Transverse slots 13a are formed in the upper end of the tube 13. The arm 15 and the brace 17 are movable up and down yon the tube 13. Tn the position shown in Fig. 1 the arms remain in a raised position on top of the tube 13 while in the position shown in Fig. 3 the arm 15 drops down into the slot 13a thereby preventing it Jfrom turninff.
tThe dat member consisting of vertical and horizontal elements 18 `and 19 secured together by means of hinges 20 forms the side of the luggage carrier as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and is secured to the arms 'llllay l bolt 21 passes through the member 18 and the arms 15, securing -all three together by means of the wing-nut 22. A series o1 holes 23 is provided in each of the arms 15 to accommodate various lengths of ele ments 18.
When it is desired to use the carrier as a table, the wing-nut 22 and bolt 21 are removed and the arms 1,5 swung outwardly Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the` same;
away from the car and at right angles to 'the position shown in Fig. land into the position shown in Fig. 3, when the arm 15 `will 'drop into the .slot 13a and lock them against rotarymovement. The screw 11 in one of lthe brackets is then loosened andthe brackets "moved a short `distance towards the other and "the screw 1-1 again tightened 'so asto clamp it in that position. The elements 18 and 19 are "then "moved to thewpo'si tion shown in Fig. 3 where they form the top or the table.
When it is again desired to use this as a luggage carrier the table top is removed, the bracket is movedback tothe first position and the parts reassembled as shown in hile I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of` the invention as disclosed` in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as possible in view of `the prior art.
What T claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A combined luggage carrier and table comprising two brackets adapted to be se-` cured to the running board of an automobile, an arm hingedly secured to each bracket and movable to a rst position parallel to the edge of the running board and to a second position substantially at an angle to the rst position and a flat mem* ber adapted to lie across said arms in the second position to form a table.
2. A combined luggage carrier and table comprising two brackets adapted to besecured to the running board of an autombile, an arm hingedly secured to each bracket and movable to a first position parallel to the edge o'f the running board and to a second position substantially at an angle to the first position and a flat member adapted to lie across said arms in the second position to form a table, said member being secured to said arms in the first position to form the side of a luggage carrier.
3. A combined luggage carrier and table `comprising twobrackets adapted to be se-` bracket and movable to a lirst position parallel to the edge of the running board and to a second position substantially at an angle to tlie lirst position and a lfiat meinber adapted to lie across said arms in the second position to form a table7 said inember being composed of twoflat elements hinged together7 one of which is secured to said arms in the first position to forni the yside of a luggage carrier.
et. A combined luggage carrier and table comprising two brackets adapted to be secured to the running board o- I` an automobile, an arm hingedly secured to -eacll bracket and movable to al irst position parallel to the edge of the running board and to a second position substantially at an. angle to the first position, a flat member adapted to lie across said arms in the second Aposition to forni :1 table, moans l`o1 .securing said arms to said member in the first position and means tor securing the arms n1 the second position.
