Patented lt CHARLES LEICESTER, (ll? QCEAN FALLE, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA;
rn'rnnitocnrne ERICK.
Application filed June 5,
Z '0 all to/tom may concern.
Be it known that I, Crrannns H. LEICES- run, a citizen of Canada, residing); at (,lcean llalls. Province of British Columbia and Doininion of Canada have invented certain new and useful Improvements in interlockingldriclrs, of which the following is a speci li cation.
The present invention relates to improvements in building blocks or bricks and aims to provide a novel and improved building; block or briclt preferably for constructing walls furnaces and other structures.
It is the object of the invention to pro vide building); blocks or bricks oi? the nature indicated, which may be simply and inexpensively inolded or otherwise fashioned and which will interlock so as to present wall. or structure which cannot split open in any direction across that forinstance in which Another object of the invention to provide building blocks or bricks especially adapted for building furnaces whereby a strong, durable, efiicient and inexpensive structure is created preventing the collapse of? the furnace walls.
l Vith these and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds the invention resides in the construe tion and arrangement otparts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed. it being understood that changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts andlminor details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
The invention is shown on its preferred embodiment in the accompanying dranving' wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved building block or brick. v
l ig uro it is a top plan view of a wall. nonr'structed oi buildii'igrblocks made according to the present invention, with bond laid across the wall. p i
Figure 3 is an end elevation of a wall. constructed of bricksaccording to the present invention, and
Figure 4 is an elevation of a wall constructed of building'blocks made according to the present invention, with bond laid longitndinally. a
lean. serial No. 386,914.
The present building block comprises a body 10 provided with a key portionll pro jecting from one of its faces intermediate the ends of the body 10. Upon its opposite vitace the body 10 is provided with a pair of key portions 12, 12 projecting); from its face with the ends of the body 10.
As shown in Figure 2, a wall is constructed by superposinq" a plurality of: layers 1 of bricks with the bond laid across the wall. Each of said layers being constructed of a plurality of juxtaposed stones 10, so arranged. that half of the key portion 11 on one stone directed towards the right of said figure, fits into the space 1-4; fornied by half the key portions of two adjoining stones oi the next row, while the space 15 between the two key portions 12 and 12 of the stone 10 is directed towards the left in Figure 2 and is engaged by the portions 12 and 12' of the stone or brick of the next succeeding row. I
Figure 3 shows the end faces 16 of the stones and Figure 4 shows an elevation view of a wall constructed of stones 10 with bond laid longitudinally, the upper and lower row shown without any keys 11 so that openings 1'? are formed between the, upper and lower ows and the rows adjoining said upper and lmver rows respectively.
From the "foregoing, taken in connection with the drawing, the advantages and capabilities ot the present invention will be ob vio'us to those versed in the arts without fur ther corninent.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as followslln a wall construction of the character described with the bond laid longitudinally, a plurality of layersot juxtaposed blocks, key portions on said blocks Forming spaces, the key portions of tltieblochs in one row of" blocks fitting into the spaces Formed by the key portions 011 the opposite side of the aloclrs in j the adjoining; row, and keyless blocks to torrn the upper and lower rows tor forming openings between said upper and lower rows and the rows next adjoining said. upper and lower rows.
ln testimony whereof I have aflixed. my
signature.
