Description

K. C. DICKSON. Loo'P TAKER APPLICATION FILED W. 25. 1'92!- lPmn Oct. 10, 1922.
INVENTOR.
I Mam 401 mm KIT CARSON DICKSON, 0F DAVENPORT, IOWA.
LOOP Texan;
application filed January 25, 1921. Serial No. 439,859.
(FILED UNDER THE ACT OF MARCH 3, 1883, 22 STAT. L, 625.)
To aZZwlwm it may concern Be it known that I, KIT CARsoN DICKSON, a citizen of the United States, and a'resi+ dent of Davenport, county of Scott, State of Iowa, have invented an Improvement 1n Loop Takers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention described herein may be used by the Government, or any of its ofiicers or employees in prosecution of work for the Government, or by any other person in the United States without of any royalty thereon.
The subject vof this invention is a loop taker intended for use on a sewing machine,
especially one designed for sewing canvas, leather or other heavy material.
In the taker now in use on such machines the taker point and frame are integral or the point is firmly affixed to the frame so that when the point becomes ,dull or broken an entire new unit must be secured.
The present invention provides a frame with a loop point detaehably connected thereto so as to be readily removed and a new point secured in place.
With these and other objects in 'vie'w which will hereinafter more fully appear the invention resides in the novel arrange ment and combination of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being" understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of whatis claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
ne practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying draw-' ing, wherein: t
Fig. 1 is a perspectiveof a taker-up constructed in accordance with the invention;
payment to me .Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the point detached;
gig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the same, an
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the frame with the point detached.
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference In carrying out the invention I provide a frame 10 of substantially circular formation and having a hollow shank l1 bifurcated at its end to provide for connection to a moving part of the machine, and formed with a cut-away portion 12. This frame is drilled-to provide an aperture 18 for the reception of the machine screw 1e by means of which the loop point is detachably secured in place on the frame,
The loop point is fashioned with a tapered end 16 adapted to enter and form the loop, and with a depending lug 17 having a face formed to rest upon the face 18 of the frame positioned at one side of the cut-away portion From the foregoing it will be seen that the loop point is firmly held and braced upon the frame but may be readily removed therefrom when desired.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire 'to secure bv Letters Patent, is:
A loop taker, embodying a frame having a cut-away portion at one end thereof, a loop point having a reduced end extending into the cut away portion, a lug extending laterally from the point adapted to rest against the face of the frame and detachable means for securing the point to the frame.
KIT CARSON DICKSON.
