1 Claim.

This invention relates to a leather lacing needle, the general object of this invention being to provide a needle formed of bamboo or the like and having one end split to receive the leather strip so that articles can be decorated or sewn with leather, as in leather craft, very cheaply and it avoids the necessity of punching large holes in the leather or other article to receive the leather stitching.

In these views, the numeral 1 indicates the needle which is preferably formed of bamboo and has one end sharpened as at 2 and the other end is split to receive the skived end of the leather strip 4 and if desired, this end of the strip can be cemented in the split end of the needle as shown at 5.

Also if desired, when the strip is almost used up, the strip can be cut close to the needle and one end of a new strip cemented to the end of the part still attached to the needle, so that the same needle can be used over and over again.

As before stated, this invention can be used in the leather craft industry and its use greatly reduces the cost of articles manufactured of leather or where used for ornamentation purposes, and for attaching parts of an article together as shown in Fig. 1.

With this form of needle, it is not necessary to punch large holes in the articles as is now the case.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-

Figure 1 is a view showing how the invention is used.

Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing how the leather is secured to the needle.

Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:-

A device of the class described comprising a needle formed of bamboo having one end sharpened and the other split to provide a pair of prongs, each prong having a fiat and plain inner face and a strip of leather having one end tapered and placed between the prongs and cemented to the inner faces of said prongs.
