Application filed February 23, 1921. Serial No. M73542.
To all whom it may concern.
.' Be it known that l. Bmnorm YURKA. a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful lniproren'ient in Brassieres, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brassieres. its objects are to make such wearing apparel in such wise as to be free of all protuberances that can bear injuriously or uncomfortably against the breasts and body portions adjacent thereto, as well as against the rest of the body in its encirolement by the brassiere; and also to make the body member of the brassiere of a material which if moistened. either artificially or by perspiration, will so slightly adhere to the body that unsightly and uncomfortable shoulder straps will not be required to keep the hrassire from slipping down, and that back tapes for securing the ends ofthe brassiere in position will serve to hold the brassiere ends in place without drawing the tapes so tightly in place that the upper and under edges of the brassire across the front of the body will be strained against the skin and thereby retardcirculation and uncomfortably depress and redden the skin along such edges; and which when worn will flex with all the movements of the body and also permit the upper back tapes to be pulled downwardly to about the line of the under back tapes for holding the upper corner margins. outwardly of each breast, sutliciently below the arm-pits to permit a low cut gown to be worn without showing the upper corner por tions of the brassie 'e under the arms.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and illustrating my invention,
Fig. 1 is a plan View of the front or outward side of my brassiere.
Fig. 2 is a sectional detail thereof at line 2-2 of Fig. 1.-
Fig. 3 is a front w of a torso. in dotted lines, with the brassiere in place.
Fig. 4 is a back View of a torso, in dotted lines, with the brassiere in place.
Fig. '5 is a perspective View of a torso, in dotted lines, and of the brassicre in aposition of wear and shows the under back tapes in normal position with the upper back tapes depressed for lowering the upper corner portions of the-body member of the brassiere below the arms.
coloration or otherwise;
ln the drawings, the thin sheet-rubber body member 1 of the b-rassiere is of rectangular shape with cut edges that are not seamed or folded. and are therefore tree of protuberances. This body member is freely flexible in all directions and has superposed on the front surface of each of its corner portions.'a flattened end portion 2 of a back tape. the two under corner tapes haying their extensions indicated by 3, and the two upper corner tapes having their extensions indicated by 4. Over each end portion 2 of a tape, a stay-piece 5 of thin rubber is located; and each flat end portion of a tape is vul canized on one surface to a corner portion of the body member stay-piece 5 being in part vulcanized to the other surface of the end portion of the tape and otherwise marginally vulcanized to the front surface of the body member 1 outwardly of the three edges of the tape between the body member 1 and a stay-piece. The four slight corner protuberances thus formed areon the outward side or" the brussiere and do not come in contact with the body. preferalny tied rat-her than buckled at the spine. By slightly moistening the under surface of the body member 1 before it is put on, body member will stay in place by slight but sutiicient adhesion to the body and the e result will result when the body perspir-s. Thus shoulder straps are wholly unnecessary for keeping the brassiere in place even though the tapes are but gently and not tightly tied together at the back. When the brassiere is to be worn with a low cutwai. the tied, upper back tapes may be pulled oownwardly to the level of the under tapes; thereby pulling down the upper c0rners of the body portion 1 downwardly under the arms. as shown in Fig. 5. ln such position the ends of thebody member will'be wrinkled as at 6, under the arms. but such wrinkling will be unobjectionable because of The tapes are the thinness of the body member. vul' anizing the tape ends in place between the body member corner portions and the stay pieces. the tapes are securely anchored to the body member. While it is possible to stitch the tape ends to the corner portions of the body member, the stitches are apt to tear out of the thin rubber. The thin rubber body forming member of the brassiere may beof any desired color more or less to match skin and the brassiere has the further advantages of maximum
