COVERING FOR MATTRESSES AND THE LIKE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE P. MoEN'rIRn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coverings for Mattresses and the like, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in coverings for articles such as mattresses, cushions, and the like, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a covering for such an article having a distinctive strip or stripe associated therewith and so arranged as to be in proximity to one or more edges of such article when the covering is applied thereto whereby the appearance of the article will be greatly improved at very slight extra expense and whereby the article will have individuality and may be easily recognized and distinguished amongst a lot of such articles not so covered.

The invention consists in the novel constructions and arrangements to be hereinafter described and claimed for carrying out the above mentioned object as will appear from the following description of a preferred embodiment illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein,

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a covering embodying the principles or" my invention as applied to a mattress having roll edges.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of the mattress before the roll edges are formed.

Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same after the roll edges have been formed, and

Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a fragmentary portion of one of the roll edges.

The covering for the top 5, bottom 6, and side and end boxings 7 and 8, respectively, oi the mattress may be made of any suitable material, for example, ticking which may be of any desirable pattern or color. in the form of mattress illustrated in the drawings one or more of the edges, preferably all those running horizontally are covered with

These strips preferably form an inherent part of the covering, the strip 9 extending around the mattress and having its sides attached, respectively, to the top piece 5 and the side and end boxings 7 and 8, and the strip 10 also extending around the mattress and having its sides attached, respectively, to the side and end boxings 7 and 8 and the bottom piece 6. The roll edges are then formed by methods well known to those skilled in the art and the

I claim:

A mattress consisting of a tick and a filling, and formed with rolled edges, the tick comprising top and bottom coverings, side and end boxings and strips sewed to said coverings and boxings to constitute the coverings for said rolls, the latter being formed by lacings extending through the filling and through the seams between said strips and said top and bottom coverings and boxings whereby the seams are drawn under the rolls.
