Description
H. J. GRENIER.
CUE TIP FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED Aue.9. 1921;
Patented Sept. 26, 1922.
WITNESSES A TTRNE V8 Patented Sept.. 26, 1922o HENRY IosErIIeRENIEE, or FAIRFIELD, CONNECTICUT.
CUE-TIP EASTENER.
Application led August 9, 1921.
To all whomt may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY J. GRENIER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Fairfield, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Cue-Tip Fastener, of which this is a specification.
My invention relates to a fastener and has for its general object to provide a fastener means that will secure the tip against strains exerted at all sides as well as to provide a clamping of the fastener means into position with the application of the tip to the cue.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a sectional side elevation of a cue attachment embodying my invention showing the same applied to a cue illustrated in part in side elevation;
Figure 2 is a front view of the tip fastener and the inner layer of the tip;
Figure 3 is a rear view of the element to which the tip is applied.
In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example the cue A. is formed with a tenon t at the front end of which is received the rear end of a ferrule 10, said ferrule being secured to the tenon a by a transverse pin 11. At the front end the ferrule 10 is formed with internal threads 12 to receive the threaded stud 13a on an element 13 to which the tip 14 is applied, said tip in practice being formed of layers, the line 14ka in Figure 1 indicating the joint between the layers. By the described arrangement the element 13 with the tip 141 applied thereto may be readily secured to or detached from the ferrule 10.
face of the element 13 has lateral grooves 13c communicating with the holes 13b and` the terminals 17 of the fasteners 15 are directed laterally outward in the said grooves.
The arrangement is such that the terminals 17 of the fasteners will be 'clamped firmly by the element 13 against the front end of the ferrule 10 by the screwing of the stud 13:L into the threads 12 of the ferrule.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical4 embodiment of my invention, I do not limit vfront end of said ferrule, a tip on said element, and a fastener embedded in said tip, said fastener for a portion thereof lying transversely in the tip and having parts at the ends of the first portion extending rearwardly to the rear of the tip and through said element, the terminals of said fastenerk extending laterally outward at the rear side of said element and being clamped by said element and against the ferrule.
2. An attachment for cues comprising a tip, an element to the front of which said tip is applied, threaded means to secure said element to a Icue and a tip fastener embedded in the tip and extending rearwardly therethrough and through said element to the rear of the latter laterally outward to be clamped between the element and the cue by the securing of said element in position.
3. An attachment for cues comprising a tip, an element to the front end of which said tip is applied, said element having holes extending from the front to the rear thereof, and grooves in the rear face extending laterally outward from said holes, a ferrule to which the said element is detachably secured, the ferrule being adapted to be secured to a cue, and a fastener embedded in the tip and extending rearwardly therethrough and through the holes in said element, the terrninals of the fastener being directed laterally outward and being accommodated in said grooves.
4;. An attachment for cues comprising a tip7 an element to the ront'of Which said tip is applied, means to secure said element to a cue, and crossed fastener Wires embedded in the tip and extending rearwardly therethrough and through said element to 10 the rear of the latter, the terminals of said fasteners being directed laterally outward at the rear face of said element to be clamped by the latter by the securing of said element in position.
HENRY JUSEPH GRENIER.
