To all whom t vm ay concern:
Be itknown that I, HERMANN STELZNER, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Lbeck, in the German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Diving-Helmets, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates t0 improvements in diving-helmets.
The objects of my improvement are, first, to give the helmet such form andA configuration that the points of connection or respectively the connecting means for the flexible pipe-conduits or tubes, telephone-cables and the. like are reliably sheltered or protected from external influences and are prevented from coming in collision with or being caught by hooking on surrounding objects; and, second, to provide means for improving and facilitating the fastening and joining of the connecting means for the tubes, cables and the like to the helmet.
With this end in View my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as Will be hereinafter fully described.
I attain the said objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying sheet of drawings in which- Figure l is a rear view of a diving-helmet constructed in accordance with and embodying my invention; Fig. Q is a Vertical section on the line A-B of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is ar plan of the helmet seen from below after the removal of the tubes and telephone cable.

The rear wall of the helmet a is provided with an inverted offset a3 so that the lower wall portion al recedes or is set back from the upper one a2 and an external recess is formed in the rear of said helmet. The said offset a3 is greatest in the vertical middle plane ofl the helmet and decreases in area toward the sides of the helmet so that the horizontal wall ai forming the o'set between the wall portions a1 and a2, when seen from below, presents a sickleor crescentshaped surface; (Fig.
To the. wall or oii'set a3 are attached the connecting means such as branches d (Z1 for thc tubes as, a nipple t1 for the telephonecable and the like which connecting means 5 are thus located entirely within the external recess Jformed by the walls al and 1.3, in protected positions. The joining of the connecting branches d d1 to the wall a3 is preferably eilected by means of a connecting piece 0 having holes into which the said branches d d1 are firmly and tightly secured. The connecting piece c is screwed against the offset L3 by a screw bolt b passed from the interior of the helmet through a hole in the wall or offset a. and engaging a screw threaded bore in an enlarged part or bulb 01 of the piece 0. As the said bore does not fully traverse the connecting piece c, no special means are necessary for tightening or packing the head of the bolt b. A sufcient air and watertight connection is already secured by a suitable washer plate e placed between the piece cv and the offset a3. The holes of the piece c or respectively the openings of the branches d @Z1 fastened therein register of course with corresponding holes in the offset a3. The free angular space produced by the offset as within the helmet may be used for arranging a suitable air channel or channels f leading from the rear to the front of the helmet, (Fig. 2).
It is obvious that by the sheltered disposition of the connecting means for the helmet-fittings under the offset a3 and in the external recess formed thereby, the said connecting means do not project beyond the body of the helmet. Damaging or breaking off of the connecting means by external objects coming in Contact or collision with the diving element is therefore substantially obviated as well as an entangling ofthe said connecting means with such objects.
I claim:
1`. A diving helmet having a portion of its rear wall extending inwardly to form an external recess and connecting means for attaching helmet fittings to said helmet carried by said inwardly extending oifset so as to be located within said external recess.
2. A diving helmet provided in its rear wall with an inwardly extending offset decreasing in area toward the sides of said helmet and forming an external recess and connecting means for attaching helmet fittings to said helmet carried by said inwardly extending offset so as to be located entirely within said external recess.
3. A diving helmet provided in its rear Wall with an oii'set forming an external recess, connecting means for attaching helmet fittings to said helmet located entirely Within said external recess anda connecting member detachably secured to said oiset Whereby said connecting means are fastened in operative position.
4. A diving-helmet having an inverted offset in its rear Wall in combination With a connecting piece adapted to carry suitable connecting means for helmet-fittings and screwed against the said offset from the interior of the helmet by means of a screwbolt passing through a hole in the Wall of the offset and engaging a screw-threaded bore in the said connecting piece.
5. A diving helmet provided in its rear Wall with an inwardly extending offset forming an external recess, connecting means for attaching helmet fittings to said helmet carried by said inwardly extending oiset so as to be located entirely Within said external recess and means coperating interiorly with said offset to form an internal channel eX- tending from the rear toward the front of 25
