Be it known that l, ltlionan loL'rUNsni, a citizen ot Poland, residing` at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State oit illinois, have invented certain new and useful lmproveinents in Folding-BedTables, of which the following isa specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in folding bed tables and has particular reference to a table attachment tor beds wherein the table is capable ot various adjustments to assume dii?- iierent positions overlying the bed when in use and to be 'folded beneath the bed :tor storage when out of use.
lWith the above general object in view and others that will appear the natureA ot the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form, combination and arrangement ot parts hereinatter more iullji described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed., o
lfn the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a rear elevational view of a folding bed table constructed in accordance with the present invention, the table top being partialljv7 broken away and clamped to the side rail of a bed illustrated in section, and further shown in folding position beneat-h the bed by dotted lines, and
F ig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustra-ted a folding bed table embodying a base support including right angularly disposed arms 1 and 2 that are supported on the angle iron side rail 3 ot a bed. The clamping device for the base support embodies a U -shaped strap formed of spaced legs l and 5, the leg 5 engaging the inner lace ot the adjacent section of the rail 3 while the leg lengages the outer face of the leg 1, the bight of the clamp having an opening therein to permit sliding movement of the leg 1 as clearly illustrated. To hold the clamp in adjusted position, the upper end ot the leg l is bifurcated to provide a pair ot lugs G between which a lever 7 having a cani tace i" is pivotally mounted A cross pin 9 carried by the lower end of the leg 1 will prevent the Serial No. 560,249.
clamp trom becoming disengaged yfrom the leg l of the base support when the same is dropped to its dotted line position shown in Fig. 1.
l he supporting arms for the table top embody a lower curved section 10 having a tongue 11 at its lower end that is pivotallv 60 supported on the pin 12 carried by the spaced ears 13 'formed on the base support, the angular adjustment ot the supporting arm 10 being controlled by the thumb screw 14rin an obvious manner. A straight upper 65 arm section 15 formed with spaced ears 16 and 17 at opposite ends respectively has the ears 17 enclosing` the tongue 18 to form the upper end of the curved section 10 and pivotally supported on the pin 19, a thumb crewk 2O holding the adjacent ends oi the arms in adjusted positions.
relatively short arm section 21 carrying a tongue its rlower end is pivotally supported between'the ears 16 on the arm 15 75 by the pin 22 and maintained in adjusted` positions by the thumb screw i table top embodying hinged sections 24 has one oii the sections secured to a plate 25pmA vided with depending spaced ears Q6 strad- 80 dling the tongue 2? and pivoted thereto by the pin ,28. An arcuate arm 29 carried by the plate E25 passes through an opening 30 in the arm 2l and is engaged by a thumb screw 31 to hold kthe table top 2t in different 85 angular positions.
From the above detail description it will at once be understood that various elevations and lateral adjustments tor the table top may be accomplished by the adjustable connections between the arms 1G and 15 and the base support and table supporting` arm 21. rlhe angular adjustment of the table top is readily controlled by the thumb screw 31 cooperating with the curved arm Q9, 95 lillhen it is desiredvto dispose the table beH neath the iframe ot the bed, the same is moved to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1 and so maintained by the adjusting thumb screws above described, while the clamp is slidablj7 associated with the base support and bed rail to securely anchor the table to the frame oi' the bed.
TVl/virile there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment 'of the present in- 105 vention, it is nevertheless to be understood and the adjacent side of the bed rail, a cam l0 lever carried by saidclamp and adapted to engage the adjacent leg of the base support to hold the same in its clamped position, pivoted link arms carried by said base 4support, and a table top adjustably supported 15 by said link arms.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature.
MICHAL KOLTUNSKI.
