JOHN G. JONES AND o'rro w. ROSE, on em. LOUIS, Mrssounr; sAILO nosn AssreNon TO SAID JONES.
sHAMrOo DEVICE.
Application filed September 22,- 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN G. JONES and OTTO W. Rosn, resicleiits of the city of St. Louis, Missouri, and citizens of the United 'States, have invented a new "and useful Shampoo Device, of which the following is a specification.-
This invention relates to a shampoo device.
An object of the invention is to provide an efficient device that will catch and drain off the water used in a shampoo While permitting the user to hold his head and shoulders erect.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned, comprising a trough or basin and means for supporting the same around the neck and above the shoulders of the user to catch the water flowing from the head in an erect position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned,
comprising a flexible and pliable trough or basin and an elastic band in connection. therewith adapted to encircle closely the neck of the user so as to cause the shampoo water from the head to flow into the basin, and means for supporting the basin in proper position for use.
()ther objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which,
Fig. 1 is a broken plan view of one form of the invention. I
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 38 of Fig. 1.
Fig. a is a view showing a detail of a modified form of connection between the water basin and the supporting frame therefor.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, the basin 1 is of flexible and pliable material preferably of rubber, having a central raised neck portion 2. The central portion is elastic and may be expanded so as to pass the head of the user therethrough to the position shown in Fig. 2. If desired the device may be adapted for enlargement or contraction by providing glove fasteners 3 at one side of the neck portion 2 so as to clasp the device closely upon the neck of the user.
Serial No. 502,418.
The edge or border of the basin material 1 is placed over and around a hoop or ring.
4;, and another hoop or ring 5 of slightly larger diameter than the ring 4 is placed thereon to clamp the material firmly. In this way an annular basin is formed between the neck portion 2 and the supporting frame comprising the rings 4- and 5.
The supporting frame is provided with a pair of supporting brackets or braces 6 adapted to rest uponthe shoulders of the user to support the frame and to prevent lateral tilting thereof. As shown, each bracket 6 is substantially U-shaped, the arms thereof being connected to the ring 4 and the connection 7 between the arms being arched or curved to rest properly upon the shoulders of the user.
The device is held centered and prevented from backward tilting by an adjustable support. As shown said support comprises an arm 8 attached to the ring 4 and extending downwardly and forwardly. An arm 9 is supported against the under side of the arm 8, the same having laterally extended portions 10 bent upon the arm .8 and serving to guide the arm 9 in its movements, and to support said arm properly in connection with the arm 8. The arm 9 is formed with an elongated slot 11 through which a threaded projection or screw 12 extends. A clamp device or nut 18 on the projection or screw 12 may be adjusted to hold the arm 9 in any position in which it is placed relative to the arm 8. The arm 9 is formed with a curved rest 14 which may be faced with a pad 15, and is adapted to bear against the back' of the user to support the entire device properly.
The shampoo water flowing into the trough or basin 1 may be drained 01f through a discharge tube or hose 16 opening through the bottom of said basin. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the supporting frame comprises a single wire member 17 in the place of the two rings 4 and 5. The marginal portion of the basin 1 is formed with a pair of parallel beads 18 of equal diameter adapted to receive the wire frame 17 betwen them and thereby support the water basin properly.
From the foregiongit is apparent that our invention completely accomplishes all of its intended objects and purposes. By use of this device the user can sit erect while taking a shampoo without being subjected to the usual annoyance and inconvenience. The shampoo water will flow into the trough or basin 1 and be drained off through the drain holes or pipes 16. The clothing of the user is kept perfectly dry by the elastic band 2 closely encircling the neck and preventing water from passing thereby. The adjustable arms 8 and 9 adaptthe device for use under various conditions and upon persons of various sizes.
Numerous modifications and variations may be made in the construction and ar rangement of the device without departure from the nature and principle of the invention.
We do not restrict ourselves to the precise construction and arrangement shown, nor to any other unessential particulars, but what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising an annular basin composed of rubber having a central opening the bordering portion of which is elastic, the material around said opening being arranged to stretch to permit the head of the user to pass therethrough, devices in connection with the material of the basin near said opening for clamping the material closely around the neck of the user, a frame supporting the outer portion of the basin leaving the intermediate portion depending and forming an annular basin between the neck of the user and the frame, and supports in connetion with frame arranged to bear upon the shoulders of the user.
2. A. device of the character described, comprising an annular basin composed of rubber having a central opening the bordering portion of which is elastic, the material around said opening being arranged to stretch to permit the head of the user to pass therethrough, devices in connection with the material of the basin near said opening for clamping the material closely around the neck of the user, an annular frame supporting the outer portion of the basin leaving the intermediate portion depending and forming an annular basin between the neck of the user and the frame,
a pair of diametrically opposite supports in connection with the frame arranged to bear upon the shoulders of the user, an arm in connection with said frame between said supports, a part adjustably carried by said arm and arranged to engage the back of the user to prevent the frame and basin from tilting, and a passage for withdrawing water from said basin.
A device of the character described, comprising an annular basin composed of rubber havinga central opening the bordering portion of which is elastic, the material around said opening being arranged to stretch to permit the head of the user to pass therethrough, devices in connection with the material of the basin near said opening for clamping the material closely around the neck of the user, a frame supporting the outer portion of the basinleaving the intermediate portion depending and forming an annular basin between the neck of the user and the frame, supports in connection with tne frame arranged to bear upon the shoulders of the user, and means in connection with the frame adapted to engage the back of the user to prevent the frame and basin from tilting.
l. A device of the character described, comprising an annular basin composed of rubber having a central opening the bordering portion of which is elastic, the material around said opening being arranged to stretch to permit the head of the user to pass therethrough, devices in connection with the material of the basin near said opening for clamping the material closely around the neck of the user, a frame supporting the outer portion of the basin leaving the intermediate portion depending and forming an annular basin between the neck of the user and the frame, supports in connection with the frame arranged to bear upon the shoulders of the user, a device in connection with the frame adapted to engage the back of the user to prevent the frame and basin from tilting, and means for holding said device in different adjusted positions.
