Description

WrR. McCLURE.
VEGETABLE SLICER.
APPLICATION HLED APR-18; 1922.
Patented Sept. 19, 1922.
VWZZwlam, H. mcUZure ATTORNEY Patented dept. l9, i922.
WILLIAM R. MGCLURE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
VEGETABLE SLIGER.
Application filed April 18, 1922. Serial No. 554,643.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM R. MCOLURE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago. in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful l1nprovements in Vegetable Slicers, of which the following is a specification.
T he object of this invention is to provide a device for slicing or shredding vegetables and the like.
This invention also consists in certain other teatures of construction and in the combination and arrangement 01!? the several parts, to hehereina'fter 'tully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
in describing my invention in detail, reterence will he had to the accompanying drawin wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view.
Figures 3 and d are detail views.
Figure 5 is a sectional detail view through the cap showing the torniation ot the cutters.
In these views 1 indicates a cylinder hich provided with a ren'iovable cover 2 'tln'i'iugh which passes a spindle 3 which cranked at its outer end to pro vide a handle a. The other end of the spindle is pointed, as at 5, and said spindle carries a channel-slniped cross piece 6. The other end of the cylinder is adapted to receive any one of a number oi caps Y, each cap being detachably connected with the cylinder by means oi the bayonet slot connection 8; Each cap is also prhvided with central hole 9 to receive the spindle. One cap is provided with slots 1.0. one edge of each slot being bent up to form a cutter and the other cap is provided with radially extending rows of holes 11, each hole being formed to provide the inwardly extending cutting edge 12.
The vegetable or other article to be divided is placed. upon the spindle, within the cylinder, and then the cutting cap of the desired type is placed on the cylinder. Then by rotating the spindle and at the same time pressing it downwardly the article will be pressed against the cutting edges it is being rotated so that said edges will cut pieces from the article. If the vegetable is to be sliced the cap provided with the slots 10 is used but ii": the vegetable is to be shredded the cap provided with the holes ll. is used. By providin caps provided with. different kinds oi? cutting edges the vegetable can be cut into pieces of varying shapes.
It is thought from the toregoing description that the advantages and novel features of niy invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understoot". that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within scope of the appended claims.
What l claim is l. A device of the class described com prising a container having one end open, a cap for covering said end, cutters carried by the cap, a spindle passing through the container and havin a pointed end so that it can be passed through the article to be cut, a pressure member on the spindle for pressing the article against the cutters and a handle on the extended end of said spindle.
2. A device of the class described COD1- prising a container having one end open. a detachable cap closing said end, cutting means carried by the cap, a spindle passing through the container and cap, said spindle having one end sharpened so that it can be passed through the article to be cut, a cross piece on the spindle for engaging the article and a cranked handle on the extended end of the spindle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WM. R. MOCLURE.
