The cover 26 has secured to its under face a hinge leaf 27 having reawardly-extending Parallel arms 28.
Interposed between said arms 28 and extending through the same isa tubular mem ber 29 surrounding the cylindrical supporting member 22. I
This cylindrical supporting member 22' is preferably made tubular thereby lessening the weight and reducing'the cost of material.
' supporting member 22 is not moved, the
ends thereof being fixedly posts 14.
Surrounding the tubular member 22" and interposedbetween the posts or standards secured in the 14, the ears and the arms 28, are a plurality of washers 30 preferably of celluloid or some similar non-metallic material, these washerspreventing the adjacent metal faces of'the parts of the hinge from contacting with each other.
: While in the drawings the curved portion of the standards or posts 14 are shown curved upwardly toward the front of the hopper, the various parts of the hinge and its supporting member may be readily disassembled and again assembled with the curved portions of these standardsor posts 14- extending to the rear of the hopper. f
This makes it possible to utilize'the same hinge for various forms of hoppers.
' One of the principal objects of the present invention is to provide a hinge which may. be covered with white enamel and which may be used without the movable parts wearing away theenamel on the standing parts.
Heretofore in most hinges for water closets, the construction is such that the i movable parts of the hingewear away the V enamel or the nickel on the standing parts and soon leaves unfinished portions which present'an unsightly appearance.
' By means of the'present construction these objections are wholly overcome for both hinge leaves 24, 27, the tubular member 29 and the posts or standards 14 may be covered with white enamel and inasmuch as the tubular member 29 always moves with the hinge leaf 27 upon the tubular member 22,
any wearing on said tubular member will never be exposed to View.
Th'ewashers 30 of'celluloid or some other construction prevent the wearing of the adj acent metal faces of the hinge and these washers may be made of various thicknesses to permit the adjustment of the posts 14 relatively to each other in order to accommodate the' hinge tovarious forms ofWho-ppers. In hoppers on which no cover is used the tubular member 29 has its ends-cast into th cars 25 of the seat hinge 2 1. 1
It is believed that the operation andmany advantages of the invention will beunderstood without further description.
Having thus described my invention, I claim I 1. A hinge leaf having-parallel arms; a separate tubular member interposed between said arms with its ends secured therein; a cylindrical member extending'through and standards having sockets to receive the oppos ite ends of said cylindrical member adjustably secured thereto.
2.. A hinge leaf having parallel arms; a tubular member" interposed between said arms with its endssecured therein; a cylindrical member extending through and beyond the ends of said tubular member; saidcylindrical member-having its opposite ends threaded and standards having threaded sockets to receivethe opposite threaded ends of said cylindrical member. l 1

4. A hinge leaf having parallel arms; a separate tubular member interposed between said armswith its ends secured'there-in; a cylindrical member extending through and beyond the ends of said tubular member;
standards in which the ends'of said cylindrical member are adjustably secured; and a second hinge leaf having perforated ears interposed between" said arms and standards and through which said cylindrical member 7 extends.
