Be it known that I, J 0SJ1UA GREEN, a subject of the King of GrreatQBritain, residing at 38 RutlandGardens, Hove, Sussex, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and in Connection with Cabinets for Containing Talking-Machine Records, of-which the following is a specification. i p

My inventionrelates to improvements in, and inconnection with, cabinets designed for storing gramophone and like records.

The. object, of, my invention is to provide an artistic cabinet of a shape'such that it occupies a minimum of floor space with; a maximumof capacity and'toflthis end, ac; cording to my invention, I make a cabinet of a cylindrical shape or a shape resembling that ofa pillar or column,'-the diameter of whichis not greatly in excess; of that, of the records to be stored.-- Aswill be obvious a cabinet of this description can be executed in anlartistic manner and occupiesa relatively small space as compared with suchca-binets as heretofore generally made. In a suitable construction of cabinetacf cording to the invention, the body is advantageously made, as above mentioned, of plywood which is curved to a cylindrical form so as to represent a pillar, or column, the lowerpart of, the column being furnished with abasepiece, or being added to, to representza plinth or pediment. 1 Thefr'ont half of the hollow cylinder thus formed is made in the form of two doors which are either hinged to the fixed half of. the cylinder so that they can be swung back or are made to slide in guides provided upon the upper and lower parts of thebo'dy. v The records are storedin a series of semicylindrical boxes provided with shelves or type, that is to say,

Figure 8 is an elevation of a record cabinet of the elastic type in accordance with the invention, the doors thereof being closed.

Referring to Figures 1 to 6, the body of the cabinet is advantageously made of plywood curved to a cylindrical form to represent a pillar or column and comprises a. semi-cylindrical portion a connected to discs Z2 and c at the top and bottom, respectively, the latter being preferably provided with a cylindrical casing cl forming a plinth or pediment which may be supported upon casters as indicated. forming the front and movable half of the hollow column which are preferably arranged toslide in guide grooves f and g in the top and bottom I), 0 respectively. Or the said doors may be hinged to the fixed half a of the column.

It indicates the semhcyliridrical boxes for holding the records 2', all of the said boxes being hinged on a single pivot rod j at one side of the cabinet as illustrated in Figures 2 and 5, or alternately on two such rods as indicated in Figure 7. The saidboxes are so arranged on their pivots that when turned thereon into the column a the boxes only are exposed to view but when turned outwards the records are exposed and can be removed as required. Both these positions are indicated clearly in Figures 2 and 7. 7a indi cates the shelves in the boxes it upon which the records are supported. I

The cabinet may be employed alone, or, as shown in Figures 1, 2, 3,4 and 7, it may be combined with a gramophone. The casing Z of this gramophone is cylindrical so as to resemble an extension of the cabinet, but is preferably pivoted centrally as at m to the top of the said cabinet, so that it may be turned to present the sound amplifying chamber n in any required direction. 0, 0 indicate a pair of doors, similar to the doors e, e for closing the mouth of the amplifying chamber n and p is a cover formed in two parts hingedtogether, one of which parts is formed integral with the casing Z, the said doors and cover being closed when the gramophone is not required for use.

F or this purpose each unit is preferably attached to the one below it by a screw pin a on its underside engaging a screw-threaded hole in the upper side of the said lower units.

Claims.

1. In a storage cabinet for talking machine disk records the combination with a body consisting of top and bottom members, a side wall having a front aperture therein, and means for closing said aperture, of a movable box adapted to pass through said aperture, supported upon a vertical pivot at one side of the front aperture in the body, said box consisting of top and bottom members, forming segments of a circle and a vertical wall contiguous to the curved edges and a curved vertical wall contiguous tothe curved edges of said top and bottom members, and being of a curvature substantially conforming to the cylindrical wall of said cylindrical chamber, and a series of horizontal shelves, within said box of substantially'the same shape as the top and bottom members, said box beingpivotally connected adjacent to one end of its curved side wall to the main body at one side of front aperture, the straight edges of the top and bottom members of the'boxfacingtoward the rear of said cylindrical chamber and the curved side wall of the box substantially closing the front aperture in the main body, when said box is inclosed position, whereby the disks will be retained between the rear wall of the cylindrical chamber, and the curved wall of said box.

3. In a storage cabinet for talking machine disk records, a storage receptacle comprising substantially semi-circular top and bottom members a curved semi-cylindrical wall connectingthe top and bottom portions adjacent to their curved edges, and

a plurality of substantially semi-circular shelves supported horizontally in spaced relation between said top and bottom, for supporting disks while permitting them to project from and over the straight edges of the shelves and bottom.

4. In a storage cabinet for talking machine disk records, the combination with a main body having substantially circular top and bottom members and a substantially cylindrical wall, provided with a front aperture therein, said wall having a movable portion for opening and closing said aperture, of a movable box; consisting of segmental top and bottom members, a curved side wall connecting them adjacent to their curved edges, and horizontal segmental shelves between said top and bottom members, said box being pivoted to the main body at one end of the curved wall of said box and at one side of the front aperture in the main body, the disks being retained between the curved wall of said box and the portion of the cylindrical wall of said main body when the box is in closed position and the movable portion of the cylindrical wall of the main body when in closed positionextending over the curved wall of said box o bottom members a substantially semi-cylindrical wall connecting the top and bottom members, and forming a front aperture, and movable doors for closing'said front aperture and completing the cylindrical form of the casing when closed, and a plurality of boxes arranged one above the other and each supported pivo-tally at one side of the front aperture of the casing each of said boxes comprising substantially semi-circular top and bottom members, a substantially semicylindrical wall, and a plurality of substantially semi-circular shelves supportedin' spaced relation one above the other, said pivotal located adjacent to one end of the semicircular wall thereof whereby said boxes may be independently swung into and out connections with each box being of the casing, and when in closed position within the casing will have their side walls at the front of the casing.
