To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARIAH. P. Dnos'rn,

a citizen of the United States, residing at 1Manati, in the Island of Porto Rico, have invented certainnew and, useful Improvements in Steamer Trunks; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which,

it appertains to make and use the same.

. The invention aims primarilyto provide a trunk which may be used for the packing and storing of wearing apparel and sundry articles of personal wear and use and as a berth for infants and small children for which no sleeping accommodations are pro vided by ship owners.

In, accordance wi trunk embodies a drawer openingthrough a side thereof, a two-leaf top having the leaves hinged to the upper edges of the sides, an end having an upper folding section to provide a bed of greaterlength than the trunk, a bed bottom above the drawer, and means for ;mainta1n1ngthe leaves or top sections in upright position. j

Other object-s and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.

While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements,various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without d e.- parting from the nature of the invention.

In general outline, the trunk presents the appearance of such articles as commonly provided for travel upon theseas. In accordance with theinvention, the body of the trunk 1 isprovided in its front side with an opening through which slides a drawer 2.

7 It will be understood from the foregoing,

that the invention provides a trunk which admits of ready access to the interior thereof without necessitating the entire with-- drawal of the trunk from beneath a berth, since the bulk of the articles is contained in the drawer 2 and it is only necessary to partly Withdraw the part 2 to obtain any desired article therefrom. The trunk also provides a bed for infants and small children and may be quickly brought into service for this purpose when required. When closed, the trunk presents the usual appearance and is capable of containing a like amount of articles equal to a trunk of corresponding size.

F or convenience of moving the trunk it is provided with caster wheels 12. lhe oart 11 provides a rubber sheeting bath which, as stated, is collapsible and foldable to be reduced to compact form when not required for immediate use.

It is further observed that the trunk may be of such construction as to be supplied with the usual tray or with the adjunctive parts herein disclosed as may be required to meet the demands of the user. The character of the trunk is thus rendered optional With the purchaser and the same may be sup-- plied with a tray simply or with the parts accessory to the berth as herein specified.

What is-claimed is: I

l. A bed-forming trunk comprising a rectangular body having a drawer receiving space located in a plane below theupper edges of said body, a drawer received by the space, leaves hinged to the upper edges ot the sides of the body to close the top of the latter when in a position and to form sides of a bed when in another position, a bed- -forming means carried by the Walls of the body abovesaid space, and drapery poles engaging said leaves to support them in their second named position.

2. A bed-forming trunk comprising a body having clothcs-receiving means, a bedtorming means carried by the Walls of said body, leaves hinged to the side walls of the body to close the latter when in one position and to form sides to a bed when in another position, drapery poles holding the leaves in said second position, an extension hinged to one of the end walls of the body to increase the length oi. the bed when in one position and adapted to be positioned onto the bed when not in use, and collapsible legs for supporting the extension.

A bed forming trunk comprising a body having a clothes-receiving means, a bed-forming means carried by said body, leaves hinged to the body to form sides for said bed when in one position and to close the body when in another position, means for supporting draperies engaging the leaves when in the first position to prevent them from moving into the second position, and a waterproof element detachably secured to the leaves and end walls of the body to provide a top.
