To all whom it may concern:

Be 1t known that I, BEALE J. FAUGETTE, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Durham, in the county of Durham and State of 5 North Carolina, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Yarn-Moistening Attachments for Knitting Machines, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention has for its object the provision of a device for saturatingyarn with chemical solution for wet knitting; the yarn being placed upon the knitting machine in a dry state and being; passed through the moistening device and directly therefrom to the needles of the knitting machine so as to be knit while wet into hosiery and other articles.

To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

In the practical use of my improved devicethe jar is charged witha chemical solu tion such as used for wet-knitting and the yarn, indicated by 12 is passed through the device in the manner shown in Figures 1 and I 2-i. e., is carried through the eyelet i, the eyelet 7 and the eyelet 8, in the order named,

and also through the solution in the jar.

The yarn'is then carried between the swabs 9 and 10', the function of which is to rob the yarn oi excess solution so as to assure uniform moistening of the yarn. The yarn is then carried out of the device throughthe eyelet 5 and then passes directlyto'the needles of the organized knitting mechanism so as to be knit while in a wet state into hosiery and other articles.

It will be apparent from the foregoing that through the medium of my novel attachment the yarn may be inexpensively and effectively moistened; also. that my 1mproveinent is a material simplification of extant apparatus. ciated that my improvement averts waste of yarn and is calculated to accomplish the adequate moisteninp; of the yarn without la bor orattention on the part of the attendant of the machineto which the device .is attached.

Asindicated in the foregoing my improvement is adapted foruse to "advantage in conjunction with knitting machines automatic or otherwise, for hosiery. gloves, underwean lace and all other articles.

Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters-Patent,

1. A moisteningattachment for knitting machines comprising a jar, acap, secured thereon and having openings for the inward and outward passage of yarn. respectively. a

hanger in the jar and carried by the cap and having adjacent to. the bottom of the jar means to guide yarn, the said hanger having a portion extended upwardly through the cap and adapted to be connected to a portion of a knitting machine, and means carried by the cap and hanger and located in the jar to remove excess moisture from yarn precedent to the passage of the same out of the attachment.

2. A device adapted to be associated with a jar tofconstitutea moistening attachment It will furtherbe apprefor knitting machines, the said device comprising a cap equipped for connection to a jar and having openings for the inward passage and upward passage of yarn, respec- 5 tively, a hanger in'the jar and on the cap and extending through the cap and adapted for connection to the frame of the machine and having in its lower portion guide means for yarn, a swab on the upper portion of the hanger, and a swab within and carried 10 by the cap and arranged adjacent to the first-named swab.
