Description

1. M'cFADIjEN STOPPER.
APPLICATION mzo AUG.3I. 1920.
Patented Aug. 15, 1922;
WITNESS:
'E' NT Fleu JOHN MGFADDEN, OF SOUTH CHICAGO, ILLINOIS STOPPER.
Application filed August 31, 1920. Serial No. 407,147.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that 1, JOHN MOFADDEN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at South Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a stopper and has for its primary object the construction of a stopper that may be more readily removed from a bottle and which will be removed in such a manner that the stopper will not become distorted or broken in any manner.
An object of the invention is the novel manner of arranging and constructing the various parts so that the yieldable portion of the stopper will be effectively gripped and mechanically held against being destroyed.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. l is a side elevation of my improved stopper.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the disc.
Again referring to the drawing illustrat ing one construction of my invention the numeral 1 designates the body of the stopper which may be constructed of cork, rubber, or any other yieldable material. The numeral 2 designates the eye bolt passing axially through the body so as to have its eye portion 3 disposed above the body to receive the finger ring 4 and its threaded end 5 arranged .to be engaged bythe threaded I extension 6 of a disc 7 which engages the under surface of the body.
To complete the invention I arrange a washer 8 between the eye portion 3 and the upper surface of the body. From this construction it will be seen that whenthe disc is screwed into place the bodyis effectively clamped in place and besides the extension 6 PIOJGCtlIlg into the body material re inforces the lower portion of the body soas to prevent same from being mutilated by the continuous insertion of the sto er into the bottle. pp I A feature of my invention is the novel manner of constructing and arranging the parts to reduce the cost of manufacture.
It is, of course, to" be understood that the,
invention may be constructed in various w other manners and the parts associated in I different relations, and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as'set forth, inthe claim hereto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is: a
A stopper comprising a cylindricalrubber body having an opening extending axially therethrough, an eye bolt passing through said openlng, a cup washer arranged under the eye of the bolt and having its marginal edge engaging the top of the body, and a disc engaging the under surface of the body and having a cylindrical extension threaded on the bolt and positioned between the bolt and the wall of said opening.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOHN MoFADDEN.
