Be it known that I, CARL FREDRfoK MAGNUSSON, a citizen of the Unlted States,

,residingat Minneapolis, in the county'of' Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Window Curtain and Shade Holders; and I do hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and highly eflioient adjustable window curtain and sash holder, and to this end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices, hereinafter described and defined in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective View showing the improved window curtain and sash holder applied to the casing of a window frame and having supported thereon a curtain rod and shade by means of broken lines;

Fig. 2 is a right hand elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1; and

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail view with some parts sectioned on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

The numeral 4 indicates a window frame in which are mounted upper and lower sashes 5 and provided with a casing 6, in the upper corners of which, are blocks 7 which extend outward of the casing proper.

The invention includes two flat plates 8, the upper portions of which, as shown, bear against the outer faces of the blocks 7 and the lower portions of which are inwardly offset and bear against the outer faces of the stiles of the casing 6. On the outer edges of the casing plates 8 are upper, lower and intermediate inturned ears 9 arranged to engage with the outer edges of the blocks 7 and the casing stiles 6. Formed with the outer edges-of the casing plates 8, above the upper ears 9, is a pair of outwardly projecting arms 10 having, in their upper edges, open seats 11, to receive and hold a curtain rod 12 indicated by broken lines.

Secured to the casing plates 8, just below the intermediate ears 9, is a pair of hori- ADJUSTABLE WINDOW oUR-TAIN AND SHADE HOLDER.

Secured to the roller 18 is a shade 21 indicated by broken lines. a f j The casing. plates 8 are held in-position without the use of screws, nails or other means that would mar the woodwork, by a pair of aligned rods 22 which extend alon the outer faces of the casing plates8 and are anchored to the stiles of the casing 6 by bending theflouter portions of said casing plates. The free ends of the rods 22 are bentat the shoulders 23 into parallel arrangement with the bodies of said rods to afiord a pair of barbs 24;. These barbs 24 extend through holes 25 in the intermediate ears 9 and are adapted to be pressed-into the underlying portions-of the stiles of the casing 6 to anchor said rods thereto.

The inner ends of the rods 22 are bent to afford hooks 26 to which are attached the ends of a coiled spring 27. This spring 27 is under strain to draw the rods 22 endwise toward each other ma thereby hold I ward movement on the stiles of the casing 6 and the offset portions of said casing plates 8, by their engagement with the lower edges of the blocks 7, properly position said casing plates.

In case the casing is not providedvwith corner blocks that extend outward thereof, the casing plates may be madefiatthroughouttheir entire length. Obviously, the spring 27 will adjust itself to windows of different widths and the shade brackets 15 may be adjusted in the channel 13 for different Widths of Windows and shades. It Will be noted that each casing plate 8, ears 9 and arms 10 are all formed from a single sheet of metal.

The above described invention, While ex' tremely simple and of small cost to manufacture, is thought to be highly efiicient for the purpose had in view. Obviously, the

improved holder may be put up or taken dZOWZIl. with very little Work and Will not mar or deface the woodwork.

Vvhat I claim is: A holder of the kind described comprising a pair 0% casing plates having shade CARL FREDRICK MAGNUSSGN'.
