INTERCHANGEABLE GLOBE r'ronzona FOR AN ELnoTnrc LIerrr. V l r Application filed December 13, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDGAR f\.-GILLINDE-R, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Interchangeable Globe Holder for an Electric Light, of which the following is a specification. Y i I My invention relates to an electric light fixture and has for its object an attachment for supporting a globe, bowl or shade of larger size on the collar than exists on the fixture heretofore employed for'supporting a globe, bowl or shade of less size.
.To this end I employ a supplemental collar forming an interchangeable holder which is attachable to the existing collar and is of such diameter that a globe, bowl or shade of larger diameter may be con-' nected with said existingcollar, and permit the latter to enter the upper wall of said supplemental collar and adapt its screws to be employed to secure the supplemental collar to said existing collar. v
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown anddescribed, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation partly broken away of an interchangeable holder or supplemental collar for an electric light embodying my invention, including the electric light fixture and a globe, bowl or shade attached to said collar.
Figure 2 represents a vertical section of said collar, including other 7 features in dotted lines.
Figure 3 represents a top plan view of the collar.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings.
l designates an electric light fixture and 2 designates the electric light shown in dotted lines adapted'to be screwed to the socket of the fixture.
3 designates the collar on the socket provided with screws 4: for holding a globe, bowl or shade of usual size suspended from the socket, these features per se being well known in the art. a I
, Specification of Letters Patent.
' or shade which was the collar 3 by. the screws l; and whicht'or Serial No. 522,083;
5 g'designates the supplemental collar whlch s of considerably greatendiameter than said collar 3 and is of the, form 'ofa Patented ug. 15, 19 212. v
circular hollow body consisting of the top wall 6, the opening of. said top wall, the-neck 9which rises 7 therein, the side or sidewall 8 .dependingfrom'the-periphery-60 from the wall of the opening 7, andgthe screws 10 n said's'ides, the top ,wall"'6 being depressed around cular channel 11."
greater diameter than the usual bowl previously retained on purpose of clearness hasfbeen removed, but
the neck forming, the cirv I l2 designates a bowl, globe or shade'of' globe.
which is substituted by the 'largersize bowl 12, when the latter is'desired foruse.
It will now be seen that lthecollar' 3&5
utilized to; support 'fthe" collar 5, and the latter is emploved to carry"the bowll2,
hence said bowl is outer side of the top neck of the how]. 12, see Figure 2, and so the bowl is connected with the collar 5. and suspended from the collar 13 and consequently from the lighting fixture. V
It is evident that when the screws 10 are loosened, the bowl 12 may be removed from the collar5, and when thescrews 4 globe or shade of'less size or diameter may be fitted in the collar'3 and secured thereto by the screws 4. Again by removing said bowl from the collar 3, the collar 5 may portion of the the bowl 12,
The
85 collar 5 with the col-" passed upwardly overthelight 2,'this being permitted byjthe- Thenthe neck 9 of'thecollar are loosened, the collar 5 may be removed 3 from the collar 3 then if desired a bowl,
be connected with the former'and the bowl 5 12 'connectedwith' the collar 5, and so supporting the same, as hereinbefore described. It is evident that the bowl 12 may first be connected with the collar 5, and carried by the same, and then fitted to the collar 3, the former passing over the light 2, owing to the opening 7, When the screws 4 are tightened, the result being the same as previously stated.
Having thus described my invention What I claim a new and desire to secure Let ters Patent, is 1- l. An interchangeable globe holder for an electric light consisting of a collar adapted to have a globe of large diameter held there on, and means on said collar for connecting it With the collar on the fixture oi? the light with which a globe of less diameter is adapted to be held, the former named collar having in its top Wall a channel in which the base oi the light-fixture may be In an electric light,a globe holding cellar on the fixture thereof, and'an auxiliary globe holding collar adapted to he connected with the first named collar, said collars being of dill erential diameters, said auxiliary globe holding collar having in its top'wall a channel in 'WlllCllllllG base portion oit the collarof the fixture. is adapted to be seated. 3. In an electric light, an auxilimy collar for holding a globe oil; large diameter on the collar of the fixture or the light adapted "to hold a globe of less diameter, said auxiliary collar consisting of a hollow body having a top all, a neck centrallythereon, and a depending side, said neck being adapted to be connected with-said collar oi? the fixture, said sidewall having means for connection of the globe or" larger diameter, and said top wall having therein a channel in which the base portion of the collar the f xture is in said top Wall, and a neck rising from the Wall of said opening, means on said neck for attaching said auxiliary collar to an existing collar of less diameter on said fixture, and means on the side of said body for connecting a neck of a globe of greater diameter with said auxiliary collar, said top wall of the auxiliary collar having therein between its central neck and depending side a channel in which the base portion otthe fixture collar is adapted to be seated.
5. An auxiliary collar for an electric light fixture consisting of a hollow body formed of a top Wall, andv a side on the periphery thereof, an opening in said top Wall, and neck rising from the Wall of said opening, means on said neck for attaching saidaux} iliary collar to, an'existing collar oft less diameter on said fixture, means on the side of said body for connecting a neck of a globe of greater diameter With said auxiliary c'ollar, the top Wall of said auxiliary collar harlng, therein a channel adapted to have the base portion of the existing "collar on the fixture seated therein.
