Description

C. P PAULSEN. THREE-l'N-ONE CLAMP AND,V|SE COMB|NE D..
APPLICATION FIL'ED MAY 1 2. 1921.
Eatented Aug. 8, 1922.
z a aw GHRI$TIAN E. IEAULSEN, 016 SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
THREE-IN-ONE CLAMP AND VISE COMBINED.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTLeN P. PAUL- snN, a citizen of the United States, resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of .Vashin'gton, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Three-in-One Clamps and Vises Combined; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 is an end view of the same.
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of the bench plate.
Figure 4c is a detail face view of the face plate.
Figure 5 is a detail plan view of the same.
Figure 6 is an end view of a modification showing the base of the device extended.
Figure 7 is a detail end view of the crosshead, the clamp member and the screw.
The invention has relation to clamping devices, and has for its object the provision of an implement of this nature capable of use as a clamp, a vise, or a pipe straightener, and adaptable to a variety of other uses. @ther objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts, ashereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the numerals 1--1 desi nate lateral frame bars, connected at each end by an arcuately formed member disposed at right-angles thereto, and which may be additionally connected at one end by a bar 8, lying in the plane of said frame bars. One of these arcuate members, 2, forms the stationary jaw of a clamp to be described, while the other member, 3, forms the bearing mem ber of the clamp, and is provided with a threaded perforation 4, engaged by a screw 6, carried by an arcuately formed movable jaw 7 of the clamp, said movable jaw slidably engaging the frame bars 1-1, and adjustable toward and away from the fixed The parts so far described form a strong Specification of Letters Patent.

and serviceable clamp, useful in connection with a variety of work.
In order to adapt the device for use in clamping cylindrical articles, or as a pipe or rod straightener, a clamp member is pro vided comprising a cross-head 9, adapted for sliding movement in longitudinal grooves 10-10 of the frame bars, and an arcuately formed clamp member 11, provided with a screw 12, having threaded engagement with said cross-head, and working at rightangles to the screw 6.
In this use of the device, the pipe or rod is inserted between the arcuate faces of the members 2 and 3 and the oppositely disposed arcuate face of the clamp member 11, the latter member being then operated by screw 12 to clamp or bend the article being operated upon. In use as a straightening device, the clamp member 11 would be slid to position intermediate the opposed faces of the members 2 and 3; whereas if it is necessary to avoid bending of the work, the member 11 is positioned beneath the member 2.
Then used as a vise it is necessary to secure the implement to a work bench, and for this purpose a plate 13 is provided, said plate having perforations 14 m, adapted for engagement by securing bolts. Plate 13 being inserted in the grooves 1010 of the side bars, is slid home to the closed ends of said grooves, adjacent the bar 8, said plate being then bolted to the bench and drawn down tightly thereupon, the main clamp being now in position for use.
In order to hold small tools, as necessary in filing and sharpening the same, and for other similar work, a face plate 15 is provided, said plate being adapted to be bolted to the movable jaw 3 of the clamp, and having channels 16 of various forms upon the clamping face thereof.
The fixed jaw member 2 may be formed with a fiat upper face 17, useful as an anvil in straightening nails and other small articles. The outer face 18 of this member may be provided with perforations 19 of varyin diameter, useful as dies in punching ho es in sheet metal.
The device is simple in construction, very strong and durable, and is capable of a wide variety of uses.
Guide rods 20, secured to the movable jaw 7 engage perforations 21 of the head 3 and serve to secure an even movement of the jaw.
the device is shown as'extended to form perforated lugs 25,-l or the accommodation of attachment bolts whereby the visemay be secured to a work bench.
I claim:
In a device of the character described,
lateral longitudinally grooved frame bars, an arcuate bearing member connecting said bars at one end, an arcuate jaw member connecting said bars at the opposite end, an arcuate j aw member having sliding engagement with said frame bars and provided with a screw engaging said bearing member, and a clampmember slidable in the grooves of said frame bars and provided with a screw disposed at right-angles to the screw of said sliding aw. member.
In testimony whereof I affiir my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
