Cowen, citi-f zen of the United States'and lresident of` the city of New .Yorlnin the county of vNew York and State of New York, has invented certain new andy useful Improvements in Hand Letter, Folders, of which the followY ing is a specification. n This invention relates to a device for folding letters, bills, circulars, and other sheets of paper ofthis characterand is directed more particularly to .a folding device adapted especially for use in connection with mailing papers of the character abovedescribed in the type of envelopes known asy window-envelopes in which a window ofl transparentv vmaterial is providedl through which may show the address on lthe sheet enclosed therein. ,i

In spite of the fact that window ,envelopes were designed primarily for the purpose of saving time and expense in rewriting or. typing the address already on the enclosure, these lenvelopes have not enjoyed as wide a use as thesey advantages would warrant. This is no .doubt due to many difficulties `which have heretofore been had with the use of such envelopes. Thus is has been found that where the enclos-ure is not very carefully folded it mayy shift in the envelope until a portion or allof the'address 1 becomes hidden by the opaque portions of the envelope, or partfof the writing may show through in view of the lack' of acv curacy with whichl it has thus far been found possible -to lquickly fold the enclosure These window envelopes have further been made with a window much larger than is reallyl necessary, in orderj-to provide a sufficiently ,transparent portion in `order to make sure that the full address fmay show through. This of course has resulted in an, increasedgcost due to the waste of transparent material used for the'window and has also made the envelope unsightly. Where care is taken in folding the enclosure so that the address will exactly register with the window, much time is necessarily consumed in the folding process, so that it has for that reason been cheaper and more convenient to use the old type of envelopes.

The main object, therefore, of my invention is to provide a folding device for enclosures to be mailed in window envelopes which shall free the window envelopes from these difficulties and thus greatly 'increase their adoption and use.

Another object of vide a device for folding enclosures adapt` ed to be mailed in window envelopes so that the folded enclosure will accurately illthe envelope and not shift therein. 4 A further object 'of'my invention is to provide a folding device of the character described which shall that only the address will show through the window-4 of the envelope. v

A still further object is toV provide a folding device of the character Adescribed which shall make it possible to limit the size of the window in the windowenvelopes to substantially the exact dimensions needed for the address to show therethrough.

Another object of my invention is to pro# vide a folding device ofthe character' described which shall have among; others the advantages aforementioned andyet be cheap to manufacture, and'eficient in` its opera!r tion, and provide a quiclnmeans for accurately folding enclosures to be mailed in window envelopes. Other objects and j vention will appear from the detailed de-r scription and the features of novelty will be particularly pointed out in the claims.
