'To all whom #may concern:
t-ized-Element Packages for Photographic ifrpl'aarntus; and `I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention 'relates to sensitized element packages for photographic apparatus and has for its object to provide a package of this character which will be simple and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and which may be readily and efficiently employed with plate or film holders such, for example, as the type disclosed in my copending application filed January 29, 1921, Serial Number 441,019, entitled Magazine film and plate holders for cameras, `of which this application is a division.
lith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which like numerals designate like parts in all the views:
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic horizontal sectional view of a plate and film holder of the typedisclosed in my said copending application, showing the present film package in-place therein, before the envelope is removed; v
Figure 2 is a'view similar to Figure 1, but looking in the opposite direction, illustrating the envelope partially removed; y
vFigure 3 is a diagrammatic plan view of a blank from which the light ktight envelope is formed; y
Figure 4 is a diagrammatic elevational view of a film package, showing the envelope partially removed; and
Figure 5 is a fragmentary elevational view of a slight modification employed in adapting a glass plate for use with the form of envelope shown in Figures and 4.
Referring more especially to Figures 3 ble material,which envelope is preferably` folded from a blank 6, such as that shown in Figure 3.
ln preparing this envelope, the member 7 of the said blank is lirst folded over along is folded over in the samedirection lalong the dotted line 10, and its edgey 11 secured in any suitable manner, as by adhesives, `to the member 7. ln like manner the member 12 is foldedA over along the dotted line 13 and its edges 14 "and 15 secured by adhesives to the surfaces of the members 7 and 9 respectively.
This producesA a package 'having a pointed tab 16, as seen nFigure 4, comprising a lower member 17, and an upper member 18, composed of the pointed ends 19 and l20 of the members'9 and 12. The inner surfaces of themembers 17 and `18 may be secured together by `adhesive after the sensitized velement has been inserted in the envelope by` "6.5 the dotted line 8, whereupon the member 9 i the manufacturer, and the tab 16 is folded over along the line121, thus providing `a completely sealed light `tight enclosure for the element 1. i
25 indicates any form of film or plate holder suitable for use with the usual camera or other photographic apparatus, hereillustrated as of the type disclosed in my said copending application Ser. No. 441,019. The said holder may comprise a rectangular frame 26, provided with a pair of dark slides 27 and 28, forming av magazine 29 for the reception and retention `of exposed films or plates, as is disclosed in the said copending application.` The said frame 26 may carry a det-achable frame 30, which is provided with ahinged gate or door member 31, adaptedto swing outwardly from the frame 30, to permit of the introduction of the sensitized element package and the said frame 31 is l further provided with a pin or projection 32 adapted to enter the perforation 4 of the i film 1, all as will appear more fully below. f
The mode of using the present invention will be clear from the foregoing, but may be briefly summarized as follows: r

in the positions illustrated in Figures l and 2, Without a sensitized element therein, the hinged member' 3l is first sivungaiv ay from the frame 30, and a package comprising an envelope with its enclosed film l, is placed between the said member and frame, its tab 16 beingunfolded to a position similar to that illustrated in Figure a. .The hinged member 3l is then'svvung back toward the frame 5U, to its initial position, and a suitable catch, not shown, serves to hold it there. The pin or projection 32, carried by the said member 3l, penetrates the dark paper envelope and passes through the perforation i in the film l.
The device is then ready for insertion into the camera in the usual manner, and after it has been so placed therein, the sensitized element l, which has up to this time been completely protected from light by its said envelope 5, is finally prepared for the eX- posure.
This is accomplished by grasping the tab 1 6 of the envelope 5, which Will projectout to one side of the camera somewhat after the manner of the vvell known film packs, and pulling upon the same. The pi carried b v the member 3l, having' passed through` the perforation i in the 'film l, ivill hold the latter against movement, While it Will tear through the relatively thin paper envelope 5, as indicated in Figure /l-. The end 22 of the envelope Will be forced against the point 23, formed at the intersection of the angularly disposed edges 2 and 3 of the film l, and the said edges will cut the said end 22, somewhat after 'the manner of a knife, thus permitting the envelope to be Withdrawn from the nlm, leaving the latter in a position inthe holder to be subjected to the action of light from the camera lens. f
The envelope 5, after it has een Withdrawn, may be discarded, since it served its purpose and is no longer required.
.lf it be desired to use glass plates instead of the fiat Celluloid films, the said plates ma;7 be cut and perforated in the same sinner as the films. However, a less e: ynsive method, and one Which has proven in actual practice toA be just as efficient, is to employ thelusual rectangular plates, such as 35, illust-rated in 'Figure and 'to attach a small sheet metal member 36 to one edge thereof, by means of suitable stickers or holding The said members 36 may be provided'with a perforation 38, and with the singularly disposed edges and l0 meetingA at a point 41, similar to the corresponding` perforation and edges above describedin connection with the film l.

It is obvious that those skilled in the art ma7 vary the details of construction as Well as the a1' 'angement of parts Without departingv from the spirit of the invention, and therefore l do not ivish to be limited. to the above disclosure except as may be required bv the claims.
