Abstract

522,826. Winding photographic films; photographic copying - apparatus. KODAK, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37276. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1937. [Class 98 (i)] An automatic film-winding mechanism comprises a winding-shaft driven by means which automatically stops when a predetermined length of film has been wound, together with a main winding means for normal operation which is disconnected from the winding-shaft during operation of the first driving-means. The invention is described as applied to an automatic copying apparatus comprising a cabinet (not shown) containing a support 16, 17 with a depending bracket 15 to which the camera is removably attached, in which position the camera film advancing roll is engaged and driven by the end of a shaft 19 normally rotated by a sprocket 22 through a one-way clutch 23, and the take-up spool is driven by a shaft 30 rotated from the shaft 19 by gears 28, 29. In order that the image-bearing part of the film may not be exposed to light before the camera is placed in, and after it is removed from, the cabinet, lengths of film are automatically wound on to the take-up roll after insertion and before removal of the camera by a second driving means which operates a stop device after winding predetermined lengths. The means comprise a motor 34 which drives the shaft 19 through a worm and wheel drive 36, 37. The motor circuit is controlled by two switches 46, 47 arranged in parallel, each having a breaker arm 50 carrying a block 51 adapted to be engaged by cams 72, 73 on gears 62, 66 respectively. The gear 62 is in mesh with a gear 58 on the shaft 19, and itself drives the gear 66 through a gear 65. When the camera has been inserted in the cabinet, the closure of the lid depresses a two-way switch in series with the switches 46, 47, thereby completing a circuit through the switch 47. The motor 34 thereupon operates the driving shaft 19 to wind off film until the gear 62 has made nearly a complete revolution, when the cam 72 opens the switch 47 and stops the drive. After completion of the copying, during which the shaft 19 is driven by means of the sprocket 22, the lid of the cabinet on being opened for removal of the camera reverses the two-way switch, which thus completes a circuit through the switch 46. The motor 34 therefore again operates to wind off a length of film until the cam 73 on the gear 66 opens the switch 46. U.S.A. Specification 1,966,348 is referred to.
