To @ZZ ywhom, t may concern.:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. KUNZ, a citizen of the United States, ...residing at Dubuque, in the `countyrof Dubuque and State of Iowa, have invented a new and use.- ful Door Hanger, of which the following is a specilication.
The subject of this invention is a door intended principally for use on refrigerators and refrigerator cars, and the invention aims to provide novel and improved means for binding the door against the door jamb.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and' arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure l is a front elevation of the door with the door hanging and opening mechanism in place;
Figure 2-is a fragmental sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure l.
The structure shown relates especially to the manner of hanging a door 2 and is designed to provide means for opening and closing the door and also for sliding the door.
Secured to the outer face of a casing 27 are plates 28 formed with forwardly projecting lugs 29 between which are pivotally mounted arms or hangers 80. The free end of each arm 30 is apertured to receive the squared end of a shaft 3l which shaft merges, at its median portion, into the ball of a rail 32.
On each plate 28 is secured a bracket 35 which receives slidably one arm of a reciprocating U-shaped yoke 36. Each yoke 36 has a depending arm 37 pivotally mounted on a pin 50 in the yoke, the pinrarrying a wheel 51 bearing against the plate 28, the free end of the arm being apertured to seen, the arms 37 lie between the 'arms 30. The lower end ofweach` yoke 36 is apertured and. threaded to receive fthe threaded end of ai reciprocable rod'38 which is locked in place by a jamb nut 39. Guide brackets 40 may be secured to the casin 27 and receive the rods 38 slidably. Each rod 38 has its lower end pivotally attached to the upper end of a rod 41, the lower end of each of which rods is pivotally secured to an actuating plate.
The actuating plates, which have the same action as bell crank levers, are of substantially triangular formation and as there is a slight difference in the two, they will be described separately.
The main actuating plate 42 is pivotally secured to the casing 27, at a point adjacent the lower forward corner of the door, by a pin 43 which engages the plate at a point substantially midway of its base. The base of the plate 42 is positioned substantially vertically and at the upper base angle it has pivotal connection with the lower end of one rod 4l. At the lower base angle the plate has pivotal connection with one end of a link 44 the other end of which has pivotal engagement with one end of a lever 45. The lever 45 is fulcrumed on a stub 54 which projects from a plate 46, secured Vto the casing 27. At the apex, the plate 42 is pivotally secured to one end of a connecting rod 47.
The connecting rod 47 extends horizontally immediately below the door and its other end is pivotally secured to the other actuating plate 48, at one angle of said plate. The plate 48 is pivotally secured at its lowermost angle to the casing 27 by means of a pin 49, At the remaining, or uppermost angle, the plate 4S is pivotally secured to the lower end of the other rod41. Als will be seen, the rail 32 normally lies with its base flange in a vertical plane close to the front face of the door and the casing 27, the base flange extending across the line of abutment between the upper edge of the door 2 and the casing.
When the door is to be opened, the lever 23, which controls a locking means 22, is thrown and allows a small amount of play between the door and its jamb. The lever 45 is then thrown in the direction of the arrow, Figure l. This rocks the triangular plates 42 and 48. Rocking of these plates draws, through the rods 41 and 38, the yokes 36 downwardly.
receive the shaft rotatably. A s will be Drawing the yokes downwardly causes the arms 37 to swing outwardly and, as they swing, they turn the rail so that the base flange is moved or swungfrom a vertical to a horizontal plane. Y
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as newv and" sought by Letters Patent, is: i Y y The combination with a casing having a door way, and a door cooperating` with the doonway; of hangers having their upper ends pivoted to the casing; a track carried by the lower ends of the hangers; the door being slidably mounted on the track; i
