application ined July 2o,
To all who/m` t may concern.'
Be it known that I, CARL KoNroRowITz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester in the county vof Monroe and State of hlew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer Attachments for Beds, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to drawer attachments for beds.
An important object of this invention is to provide novel means whereby a drawer of a suitable size may be attached to the underside of the bed without altering the construction of the bed or without marring the appearanceiof the same.
Further the invention aims to provide novel 'means whereby the attachment may be adjusted for use in connection with beds of various widths and which may be securely attached to the bed.
Further the invention aims to provide a drawer attachment for beds which is highly simplified in construction, dust proof and desirable in use, l
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing formingy a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts through the same.
Figure 1 is a side elevatin of a bed equipped with the improved drawer attachment.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the drawer and the attaching means .for the same, the drawer being shown attached to the side rails of a bed.
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the door partly open In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 generally designates a bed of any desired construction and which is provided with a vfoot 6, a head 7 side rails 8 and a mattress 9, the mattress being mounted upon the usual The invention forming the subject matter of this application resides in a drawer generally designated by the numeral 10 and which consists of a at metallic top plate 11 having its longitudinal edge portions bent Specification of Letters Patent.

upon themselves to form guides l2. The top plate 11 which may be formed from any suitable metal'is provided with a pair of spaced parallel strips 14, one end of each strip being extended upwardly to form an E -shaped attaching bracket 15 adapted to engage the flanges of the adjacent side rail of the bed.
.gaged with the side rail of the bed to hold the top plate in position. v It will be observed vthat; by tightening the turn buckles 19 the rods 18 may be drawn together for more securely connecting the brackets 15 and 23 to the spaced parallel side rails 8 of the bed. Also the turn buckle 19 may to permit the attachment to be applied to beds of various widths.
A drawer designated bythe numeral 26 is slidably associated with the top plate 11 and is provided with side walls 27 extended laterally at their upper ends to define flanges 28 which are received within the spaced parallel guide ways 12 of the top plate 11. It is thus seen that the drawer 26 is slidably connected to the top plate 11 and by reason of the top plate 11 being imperforate the drawer is rendered dust proof. The opening of the drawer is limited by means of a pair of angle plates 30 secured to the rear end of the drawer by fastening devices 31 and provided with forwardly directed flanges 31 which engage a depending flange 32 at the forward end of the top plate 11. It is thus seen with reference to Figure 2 that the drawer is prevented from being entirely open by the contact of the forwardly extending flanges 31 of the angle plates 30 with the depending flange 32. The depending flange 32 also cooperates with a second depending flange 35 in limiting the closing of the drawer.
In use the drawer may be provided with a handle 38 by means of which the same may be operated and if desired a lock may be adjusted 'te applied to the'deiwei. The drawer may be employed as a storage space, for medi# cine valuables and-ptherarticles. e
Having thus described the invention, what 1. A drawer attachment for a bed having side rails, comprising a top plate arranged beneath the bed and having a' pair of spaced parallel strips provided with L-shaped attaching brackets engaging one.l of the side rails, rods connected to said strips and havattaching brackets engaged with the in oter side rail, and a drawer slidably carried by said top plate. i l
2. A drawer attachment for a bed having side rails, comprisin a top plate arranged beneath the bed and aving a pair of spaced parallel strips provided with L-shaped attaching brackets engaging one of the side rails, rods connected to said strips and having attachin brackets engaged with the other side rail, a, drawer slidably carried by 'said top plate, said top plate being provided with depending flanges limiting the endwise' e Y .intatte connected to siiicfturii buckle and provided;
with hooks, U-shaped brackets connected to said hooks of the said second named turn buckle and adapted for engaging one of the side rails of a bed, said turn buckle being adapted to be rotated for drawing said pairs of rods together, and a drawer carried by said top plate. w I ,4. A drawer attachment for beds comprising a. topplate, a pair of spaced parallel I strips secured. to the top plate and extending beyond the same, one end of each top plate being extended upwardly and rearwardly to define a pair bf rail enga ing brackets, a pair of rods engaged with t e extended end portions of said strips, turn buckles connected to said rods, a second pair of rods 'connected to said turn buckle and pro- Lvided with hooks, IU-shaped brackets connected to said hooks of the said second named turn buckle and adapted for engag` ing one of the side rails of a bed, said turn buckle being adapted tol be rotated for drawing Said pairs of rods together, a
drawer carried by said top plate, and a l plurality of angle plates secured within said drawer and limiting the opening of the drawer, said top plate being provided with a depending flange arranged in the path of travel of said angle plate.
In testimony whereof, I have aiixed my signature in the presence' of two witnesses.
