Description

with tuyere B and chimney O, said parts be- Nrrnn STATES I HENRY S. WILOOX, OF NEVADA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLUE-CASINGS FOR FORGE-CHIMNEYS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,311, dated August 26, 1873; application filed August 2, 1873.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY S. WrLeoX, of Nevada, in the county of Wyandot and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Forge-Chimney Draft; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making apart of this specification, and to the letters and ii gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a blacksmiths chimney with my invention attached, in vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a front view of my invention.
My invention relates to blacksmiths7 chimneys; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of a device to be attached to such chimneys, whereby the smoke is the better drawn up and the chimney prevented from burning out or otherwise giving way, as Will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a part of a blacksmiths forge,
ing constructed and arranged in any of the known and usual ways. My invention is an attachment to such chimney O, and is composed of a plate, D, with suitable iianges at the ends to t on and be secured to the front side of the chimney at the base, immediately above the forge or a portion of the plate to be let down into the bed, as shown in Fig. l. In this plate D is an aperture, a, substantially of the shape shown in Fig. 2, and corresponding with the aperture b in the chimney, through which the smoke and other products of combustion pass from the forge into the chimney. Around the opening a in the plate D, on the front side, is a ilange, Gr, the inner side of which is made convex, and projects outward and upward for a suitable distance, making, as it were, a flaring mouth to the opening in the plate.
By means of this liange, thus constructed, the smoke is drawn up the chimney, and the plate protects the chimney from burning out or otherwise giving way.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The iianged `plate D having opening a and projecting convex iiange Gr around said opening, and used in combination with a blacksmiths chimney, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY S. WILCOX.
Witnesses:
