BURGLAR GUN.
APPucAnoN FILED FEB. 18. 19

BURGLAR emv.
To all whom t may concern: 4
Be it known that I, FRANCIS 55.* JonsoN. a citizen ot the United States7 residing at Mentone, in the county of Dekalb and State ct Alabama, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Burglar Guns. ot' which the Y'tfolloning is va iull7 clear, and exact dcscription. f Y
My invention relates to a burglar gun and has for its object to provide such a device which is simple in construction and opera.- tion and therefore of low cost in manufacture. f Y
Another object ot' the invention vis to provide a burglar gun or alarm which may be set in such manner as to merely give an alarm or to Wound or kill anintruder.
A 'further object of the invention provide such a device with a safety whereby the same may be locked so avoid a premature explosion While (lling, etc.
@ther objects and advantages ot the invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation ot the device.
Figure 2 is a plan View thereof.
Figure 3 is a4 fragmentary vertical section through the gun showing the operation ot the firing pin.
Figure .4f is a rear view partly in section` clearly showing the safety catch, and./
Figure 5 is a 'fragmentary section throu a modified form of the device.
Referring to the drawing more in detaih the numeral 1 designates a base member provided with screw holes 2. whereby the apparatus may be securely bolted to a counter, desk, or the like. Extending vertically 'from the base 1 are a plurality of standards'or iframe members 3. l and The member is bored horizontally to provide :i socket- (3 tor the reception orn a gun barrel 7rr `which latter is firmly held in place by a set-screw 8.
Formed in the opposite end oi? the standard 3 a cylindrical passage 9 in which is mounted the tiring pin 10 normally held in retracted position by the spring ll. A
to latch to hanscreW cap 12 is provided for locking the pin 1 0 and spring 11 in the cylindrical passage.
Mounted tor longitudinal movement in the standards and 5 is a normally pressed toward means ct' the coll spring plunger or rod 13 the tiring pin by 111-.7 Which abuts the Specification of Lettersatent.

standard at one end the pin 15 at the opposite end. The rod i?) is provided with a linger grip 16 'tor withdrawing the same against the pressure of the spring- 14.
ln order to hold the plunger in retracted position the same is provided with an annular groove 17 which receives'an edge or' the lover 187 the latter-being pivoted at 19 to the rear ot' the standard 5. bell-crank lever 2O is pivoted to ythe side ot the stand-- ard 5 and has its shorter -arm Q1 in engape ment with the free end of the lever 1S. It will thus be `seen that when the bell-crank lever 21 is rocked on its pivot in the proper direction the lever 18 Will be released from the groove 17 and permit the plunger 13 to move to the right 1). For the purpose of moving the bell-crank 20 on its pivot l provide an armv Q52 pivoted to the'top ot the standard 5 at 23. This arm 22 engages the longer arm of the bell-crank 2O and has a cord or lanyard 24 secured to its free end. The opposite end of the lanyard is tree to be secured to any part of the room. office, or the like best suited for the purpose. The tell-crank 20 is also provided With an aperture 25 at its upper end for the direct connection of the lanyard 24 thereto when 'found desirable. A latch 26 is pivoted to the rear of the standard and is adapted to engage the lever 18 and hold the same in the groove 17 to prevent accidental firing of the gun during'handling.
ln Figure 5 I have shown a slightly modi fied Jform of the invention wherein the iring pin 10 and plunger 13 are Jformed integrally. ln other respects this form of the invention is identical with that previously described.
ln operation, the base 1 is secured in the most advantageous position in a bank or the like. The barrel 7 is removed .T'rom the standard 3, loaded. and replaced. The plun- `ger 1S or 13, as the case may be, is drawn against the pressure of the spring 14 until the groove 17 is under the lever 18; the latter then drops by gravity into the groove and thereby locks the plunger in retracted position. The free end ot the lanyard 24 is then taken to a suitable place in the room and secured With the lanyard reasonably taut. It it is intended to kill or seriously Wound the trespasser the lanyard is pla-ced in line with the barrel of the gunj While if it is intended to slightly Wound or merely frighten. oil' the intruder the lanyard may 'ne placed at an angle to the barrel of the gun. In moving or otherwise Working with the gun in loaded condition the latch 26 is swung into the position shown in Figure 4.
It will be seen from the foregoing that I have provided a simplified form of burglar gun which may be easily and quickly p-ut in place, and furthermore one which is adjustable to either frighten, Wound or kill an in truder.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described what I now believe to be the best embodiment ot' the invention, but I do not Wish to be understood thereby as limiting myself or the scope of the invention, as many changes and modiiications may be made Without departing -from the spirit of the invention, all such I aim to include in the scope of the appended claims.
'Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A burglar gun including a base, a plurality ot' standards extending upwardly therefrom, a barrel and afiring p in mounted in one of said standards, a spring-pressed plunger mounted on another of said standards and operatively connected with the firing pin, said plunger having a notch formed therein, a lever normally engaging said notch, and a bell crank lever normally in Contact with said first-mentioned lever and adapted to lift the same from the notch in said plunger.
2. A burglar gun including a base, a barrel and a firing pin mounted on said base, a standard, a spring-pressed plunger mounted thereon and operatively connected with the firing pin, said plunger having a. notch formed therein, a lever pivoted to the rear of said standard and normally engaging said notch, and a bell-crank lever pivoted at one side of the standard and normally engaging the first-mentioned lever.
3. A urglar gun including a base, a barrel and a firing pin mounted on said base, a standard, a spring-presser plunger mounted thereon and operatively connected with the firing pin, said plunger having a notch formed therein, a lever pivoted to the rear of said standard and normally engaging said notch, a` bell-crank lever pivoted at one side Ot' the standard and normally en gaging the ,first-named lever, and a latch 'For locking said tirst-named lever in its plunger engaging osition.
