IMPROVEMENT IN CORSET-CLASPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,279, dated August 26, 1873; application iled November 29, 1872.

State of Massachusetts, have invented a newV and valuable Improvement in Corset-Clasps, of which the following is a specification:
My invention combines the advantages Of a p corset and a stay. A wide spring acts as a stay, while a narrow spring holding the hooks attaches to another narrow spring immediately over or in front of and partially covering the said wide spring and having the studs attached to it.
The advantages gained by this invention are strength and support, the springs now in common use being very liable to break, as theyYa-re composed Of but two narrow springs clasped in the usual way.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view Of that portion of a corset containing the springs when clasped, the position Ot the springs being shown by broken lines. Fig. 2 is a view of the same when the corset is unclasped. Fig. 3 is a transverse section in the direction Of the broken line x Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

Having thus fully described my invention, I do not claim either of the springs b c, nor the combination of the two; but
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with the springs b c, the stay d, said stay being attached to the body Of the corset in such a manner as to leave the Outer edge Oi' the spring o free, and said stay cl also covering wholly or partially the springs b substantially as above set forth.
