IMPROVEMENT IN GRIDDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,164, dated August 26,1873; application led December 31, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL KENNEDY, of Allegheny City, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new rand Improved Griddle-Cake Baker, of which the following is a specilication:
My invention consists of a griddle for baking pancakes having a hoop or ange projecting downward from the edge of the lower side, to elevate the griddle above the stovetop and inclose a hot-air -space for equalizing the heat throughout the whole area of the griddle, and thus save the undue exposure of the center to the heat, Which very soon burns A vit-out; also, to cause it to bake alike in any any ordinary or approved form and kind, but
I prefer to have it circular. B represents the I ilange or hoop, which in this example consists of a strip of rolled metal fitted on the griddle; but it may be cast together with it, if desired, and which will probably be the best. C represents the damper, which consists in this example of a section of a hoop or band with numerous holes through it, arranged to slide forward and back along corresponding holes through the ilange,`so as to open or close the air-passages for retaining the hot air under the griddle or letting it escape at will.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an article of manufacture, a griddle hav ing ila-nge B, with adjustable damper C, arranged as and for the purpose described.
