To all 20 7mm it may concern Be it known that I, Anwni) FRANKEL, mechanical engineer, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coke-Quenching Receptacles (for which applications have been filed in the name or" Berlin-Anhaltische Maschinenbau Aktien-Gesellschaft, Berlin, Germany, with applicants knowledge and consent, in the following countries: Germany, No. 300,895, June 1, 1915; Denmark, No. 27,439, May 25, 1920; Switzerland, No. 91,505, June 14,1920; Sweden, No. 49,7 61, June 17, 1920; Norway, No. 31,659, June 26, 1920; Austria, No. 86,769, June 28, 1920; Czechoslovakia, No. 5134/20, July 5, 1920; Netherlands, No. (M98, July 21, 1920; England, No. 157 ,042, Sept. 1, 1920; Hungary, No. 79,128, Sept. 9, 1920), of which the following is a specification.
In the usual coke quenching devices the incandescent coke is ejected from the oven into a quenching trough and is quenched therein. As, the walls of the quenching receptacle are seriously affected and become worn quickly by the fall of the masses of coke, furthermore, of the heat of the incandescent coke and finally by the quenching water attempts have been made to protect the receptacle by means of double-bottoms, double-walls, inserted members or the like, which also are provided with openings for the passage of the cooling water. These attempts have led to no useful result.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved coke quenching receptacle which is protected from wear and which consequently has a longer life than the usual.
troughs. lVith this purpose in view the essential feature of my invention consists in that on the inner side :of the wall of the receptacle, flat iron bars are provided adapted to form a grate or the like. The said iron bars are attached to the wall of the receptacle by means of bolts in such a way that the bars worn may be removed and replaced by new bars.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a section through the coke quenching receptacle and Figure 2 is a detail view of a part of the wall and the bars in an enlarged scale.
The solid trough or receptacle a, which may be of any suitable shape, and the bottom of which may be closed or provided with an opening adapted to be closed, rests usually in the frame of a carriage which is movable in front of the coke oven. From said oven the coke is thrown by means of a known discharging machine into the receptacle and is quenched therein, for which purpose water is supplied into the receptacle in any of the usual ways. To maintain a small distance between the said bars and the inner side of the wall of the receptacle a distance piece cl in the shape of a hollow cylinder is arranged around each of the said-screw bolts 0. The bars Z) form a grate protecting the walls of the receptacle from being worn.
The inside of the wall of the receptacle a is protected by means of a second inner receptacle, the walls of which consist of fiat iron bars Z) adapted to be fastened by means of screw bolts 0, to the walls of the receptacle a. The coke discharged from the retorts, therefore, does not strike the walls of the receptacle (1 but strikes the grate formed by the bars 6 which is thus alone liable to be damaged. As the separate bars are cooled on three sides by the quenching water and by the air and the coke only contacts with the fourth side efiicient cooling of the iron takes place. The separate bars are in consequence little damaged and stand longer and in addition are able to expand and contract due to temperature changes without affecting each other or the receptacle. Should a bar 7) become worn it is quite easy to remove it by lzlackening back the bolts 0 and insert a new What I claim is:
1. A coke quenching receptacle, comprising an outer solid receptacle and an inner perforated receptacle, comprising bars preventing the glowing coke from touching the walls of the outer receptacle and adapted to be fastened to the inside of the wall of said outer receptacle.
2. A coke quenching receptacle, comprising an outer solid receptacle, an inner perforated receptacle, comprising iron bars, preventing the glowing coke from touching the walls of the outer receptacle and means adapted to fasten said bars to the outer receptacle.
3. A coke quenching receptacle, comprising an outer solid receptacle, an inner perforated receptacle, comprising bars, ar-
ranged on the inside of the outer receptacle and means adapted to removably secure the bars to said receptacle.
4. A coke quenching receptacle, comprising an outer solid receptacle, an inner perforated receptacle, comprising bars arranged on the inside of the outer receptacle, distance pieces arranged between the outer receptacle
