ATTACHMENT FOB MEDICINE BOTTLES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, ROBERT HARMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Medicine Bottles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to indicators, and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved attachment for medicine bottles for conveying certain directions regarding the medicine to be taken.

Another object of theinvention is to pro vide an attachment for medicine bottles embodying means for removably supporting a card bearing data concernin the medicine, that is, the frequency of ta ring the medicine, the name of the patient, and the number of the prescription.

In hospitals and similar places where thereare a number of patients, or where a number of different kinds of medicine are to be given to a single patient at difi'erent times, considerable difficulty is often encountered, by the nurses or persons designated to adminster the medicine, in giving the right medicine to the right patient, and at the right time. I

It is therefore a prime object of the invention to provide a device, which can be.

quickly and. easily associated with or removed from a bottle for indicating the frequency of taking the medicine, the name of the patient, the prescription number, and any other data which will facilitate the administering of the'medicine.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved time indicator for medicine bottles embodying a body plate for overhanging the body portion of the bottle carrying the desired information, and a spring clip for detachably enga 'ing the neck of the bottle.

2 still. further object of the invention is to provide an improved time indicator for medicine bottles of the above character, which is durable and eflicient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a very reasonable cost. 4

With these and other objects in view,

ally described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which drawings:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved attachment connected with a bottle.

Figure 2 is an edge elevation of the improved attachment connected with a bottle.

Figure 3 'is a top plan view of the improved attachment connected with a bottle, the bottle being shown partly in section, so as to more fully disclose the improved invention, and

Figure 4 is a fragmentary front elevation of the improved attachment, with the data card removed therefrom, so as to more fully disclose the means for holding the same in position.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter A indicates the improved attachment; and B the bottle with which it is associated.

The bottle B is of the usual or any preferred configuration, and as shown includes the body portion 5 and the reduced neck 6 forming the shoulders 7. The upper end of the neck 6 may be provided with the usual retaining flange or strengthening rib 8.

The improved attachment A includes the main body portion C and the attaching portion D.

It is preferred that the improved device be constructed out of spring metal and struck from a single sheet of material.

The main body portion C includes the substantially rectangular flat plate 10, the lower end of which may be rounded as at 11 to enchance the appearance thereof. The body portion is connected to the attaching portion D by a relatively narrow connecting neck strip 12. This strip 12 inclines at an angle to the vertical so as to conform to the inclination of the shoulder 7 connecting the neck 6 with the body 5 of the bottle B.

The attaching portion D includes a substantially semi-circular spring clip 13, the free ends of which are flared as at 14:, so as to facilitate the positioning of the clip on the bottle neck. The flared portion 14: also form handles for permitting the convenient spreading of the clip when it is desired to remove the improved device A from the bottle, It is also preferred that the body portion C be so arranged as to normally extend slightly at an angle to the vertical and inwardly toward the clip or attaching center of the dial or clock face by means of a rivet or the like, 18, and this hand is adapted to be manually, moved around'the clock or dial face.

Directly above the dial or,clock face 15 the plate 10 has formed thereina pair of struck outclips or resilient tongues 19, and

these tongues are adapted to support the data card 20, onwhich may be inscribed the name of the patient, as indicated by the numeral 21, the prescription number as;

indicated :by e the numeral, 22, and the frequency at which thedose shall be taken,

as indicated by thenumeral 23. Printed or, stamped upon, the plate 10 directly above the dial or clock face 15 and below the clips or resilient tongues 19 can be a suitable slogan isuch as, Next dose at as indicated by the numeral 24. Thus it can be seen that a novel device has been provided, which will indicate the time when the next dose of medicine, is to betaken, the name of thepatient, theprescription number, and the period of time at which the does is to be taken.

In use of the improved device, the same is associated with any type of bottle, by simply forcing the attaching portion D on the neck thereof, and moving the hand 17 by hand to the hour at which the medicine is to be taken. When the medicine is taken atthat hour, thevhand is again set,to the next hour at ,which the medicine isto be taken. The improved devices are so formed as to be freelyv removable from the bottle so that they can be used over and over again, and the, same are particularly adaptable in places, such as hospitals where there are a number of sick persons.

When it is desired to remove the indicator from a bottle,-the bottle is held in the left hand with the thumb pressing against lower part of the indicator, then the index finger of the right hand is pressed against tip of clasp toward the holder ofthe bottle, and the indicatorireleases itself immediately and is prevented from falling owing to the engagement of the thumb with the indi-; cator.

Changes in details may be made, without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention; but,

I claim;

1. A label holder for bottles constructed from a single sheet of resilient material comprising a flat plate for engaging the body portion f a bottle, a label holding device formed on said body plate and'an attaching. clip for engaging the neck por tion ,ofthe bottle, 7

A label holder for medicine bottles comprising a fiat body plate having an inwardly extending upperv bent end, label holding means, carried by the body plate, anarcuate transversely disposed attaching clip, a reduced neck portion connecting the central portion of the attaching clip with the central portionof the body plate, and flared. portions formed on theterminals of they clip.

3. Adabel holder for, medicine bottles formed of a single sheet of resilient metal comprising a flat plate arrangedto normally lieatan incline to the vertical, an inwardly extending bent end formed on the upper terminal thereof, an inwardly extending splitclamp, a reduced neck portion connectmg the clamp with the body plate, and,

A label holder for bottles comprising an attaching clip for engaging the neck of a bottle, a depending body plate formed on the clip adapted to lie in facial abutment with the body portion of the bottle, and outwardly extending struck out tongues formed on the body plate and arranged to detachably receive a label.
